Forum URL: theoldie.proboards20.com/index.cgi?.proboards.comHi There. I'm the Admin/Moderator for The Oldie magazine message board. The board appears to have vanished! Can anyone assist? We've been using the proboard board for about two and a half years, trouble free. The Oldie is a national magazine in the UK. best, Nick

OK. Do ProBoards often delete without warning?

OK. Do ProBoards often delete without warning? If they violated the TOS, you won't get a warning. You'll know if it was deleted or not by visiting the forum. Or, the Administrator deleted the forum. That happens.

I am the administrator of the board, and i didn't delete it!
As far as I know, there was no violation of the TOS. The board serves a national magazine for the over 50s, so obviuously we have our own good reasons for keeping the board content 'above board', as it were.
What i mean is: given this, and given that we've been using proboards for 3 years, it would be pretty obvious that any TOS violation would be unintentional and/or dealt with us ourselves pretty swiftly.
But would ProBoards take this into account? Or would they still just delete w/;out warning? What kind of things usually get the boards wiped?

In that case, it'll be the classic:
Craig Suffolk, or Martyn Dale are the ONLY people who will tell you if the board was deleted by Proboards staff.
Let this thread drop so they can deal with it, posting in the thread (bumping) will take it further from help. If the forum has not been deleted by Proboards staff, you will need the ORIGINAL admin password, (the one you used when you first registered DO NOT post passwords here) Craig or Martyn may ask for it.
If no reply in 24 hours, you may bump the thread.
Bookmark this thread so you can find it again.
To other members:- Posting in this thread will not help this member, please allow this to drop.

To give an answer on your question, if the staff does do things against the TOS, the board is deleted without a warning. If a member does something against the TOS I believe they point that out to the main admin. If there hasn't been taken any action, the board will be deleted.

Hi Craig, Is that all? The Oldie board had been going entirely trouble-free for two and a half years, and tens of thousands of posts. We're a national UK magazine for the over-50s, so clearly have a vested interest in running a good board, and are not prone to adolescent outbursts, profanity, spamming etc. We had experienced moderation. Yet we got no warning from Proboards that there was a violation and the board was to be pulled.
I'm sure you're not gonna lose sleep over one more deleted board among millions -- but if you have no way of distinguishing your quality users from your quick churn boards set up by idiots, then you're doing yourselves and your good quality users a diservice. Or are you simply not interested in quality users?

Your board was deleted for a TOS violation. That can be a lot of things (like copyright for example).
And you can't determine a user just because his board is already three years old. For all we know, the TOS has been violated all that time, but just now someone has reported it.

I wasn't saying you can determine a quality user by the length of time their board has been going. There will obviously be many factors. However length of time a board has been running would seem to me to be a good indicator of a board that would be worth engaging with/cutting some slack/treating like an adult, rather than deleting without warning.
I understand that technically, they have the right to do so -- it's their product after all. However, if being a good user doesn't count for anything, -- and if Proboards aren't interested in distinguishing these kinds of boards -- then ultimately everyone loses out, don't they? The Oldie board part of a successful and widely viewed website for a quality UK magazine. I was constantly being asked who provided our boards. Obviously, i'll be telling people to steer well clear of proboards from now on.

Quite frankly I agree with Nick Parker, if that is how justice works in the US, then i am glad that I was born in Eastern Europe and proud to be a Communist, US Justice and fair play, pheweee
