Hey, small ToS question I would like answered by a PB staff member.
Someone started a conversation about Emulators on a forum I staff, and I was wondering about the legality of it. I kinda assumed it would somehow break the ToS, but I would like an offical standpoint on it so I can get other people to back down on the issue or I can quietly fade into the background xD
Thank you in advance.

Emulators in themselves are not illegal, but my guess is that they are being used for emulating gaming consoles, and as such the promotion of them would be illegal. Please state in what way they are being discussed Maybe best to get confirmation from an admin.

I wasn't aware they could do anything else other then emulate gaming consoles, but I don't know /that/ much about them so for all I know I guess they could do more xD
But that was the context in which they were being talked about, as in which emulators do you have, which games do they run etc etc etc. I know that emulators themselves aren't against the law, in the same way limewire or torrents aren't against the law, but I also know the staff don't like some of those things talked about, so I wanted to get conformation on the subject either way.

Well, it's best if an admin confirms this, but I think discussions like: 'What are emulators?' 'How do emulators work?' And other things of an informative, educational nature are OK. However, discussions like: 'Where can I get an emulator?' 'Where can I find [insert game] for such-and-such emulator?' 'Will [this game] run on such-and-such emulator?' 'Is there an emulator for [insert game]?' would not be OK. Wait for admin confirmation tho. Personally, I'd just not allow talks like that, to save headache. xD

To confirm, the conversation was about what emulators people have. Which is a pretty risky area.

There are legal emulators, so talking about emulators themselves is ok. However, talking about illegal emulators is not. So that's where your judgement come into it. If you aren't happy with using your judgement, then just blanket ban.

TBH I'm not overly sure which is which, can anyone help in that respect? Which are legal and which aren't?

i do see. Well thank you for the help, I think a blanket ban might be the best bet for now.
Cheers.
