Forum URL: christianwives.proboards101.comHope I can make myself understood!! I recently added a new member group to the list on my board to allow certain people access to certain boards. Also, I have used the Rankings thing in admin so that members get stars as they post more... It appears that if you have reached say a certain number of posts and should be displaying a title change plus additional stars then its NOT doing this if you are a member of the new group...ummmm any help appreciated, thanks

If you are in a Group, that Group name takes over the Rank, so the Rank will no longer show

The only way around it, is two create a group for each rank you have, and as the member goes up in ranks, you can apply the corresponding group to them. Although, i have asked for a 'show rank instead of group' option in the groups, to be added at some point, that probably won't be until the next rewrite.

It will only show that one group that they are in. For example... for you here, i would create a group called 'Junior Member', and assign it two stars ... give it all the relevent powers, and then assign the group to you. So it will just look exactly as it looks now.

No, it won't work, Craig.... Just realised itn creating a nre group.... To make myself understood I created a group that only married women can view, that is not the rankings... In creating a new group to enable stars etc and selecting members to go into that new group created removes them from the other...so don't think it will work....

Yes. That's the point. Instead of that one group, you will have to create a group for each rank you have ... all with the same powers, and access as the one group, except that their relevent rank will show instead of the group.
Now when one of those members moves up a rank (although they won't because they are in a group, but when they should), you can assign the relevent rank's group name to them.

Ok, maybe I am not understanding correctly...( been here b4 havent we! ) I have made it so that the boards i mentioned only can be viewed by this married group... I dont know how to make it so that this board is not visable to just anyone not in that particular group....in this case it is wife2wife. ETA:...think I have just worked it out....I do that when I slow down a bit.. If I get stuck will let you know thanks again

oo lala getting too complicated for my grey matter now.... It is too difficult to enable members to have stars AND be part of a group who has access to a certain board. It looks like we have to lose the star ability ....

The member group will overrule the the rank, that will always happen.
Let me put it a different way. If i wanted you to have access to the admin board here, but have you regular rank, i would create a group called Junior Member, and give it two stars. I would then select that group able to view the category with the admin board in. Now, say you reached the point limit to go to the next rank, then i would edit your member group name and stars to reflect the change.

Yer I figured that Craig but the problem occurs as I selected ranks when creating the board so a number of posts equals so many stars ...Then I created a new section ( catergory) the prob is I have is , there are 3 women at present I do not want to give access to the marriage section, so it was easier to make the rest of the members into a group as the star thing messes it up... they unfortunately lose their stars the ranking then applies only at mo to the 3 members I was wanting to get the stars back for the rest of the members but cant do it coz these other 3 get access ( coz of the posts) Is that clear...or have I confused myself...
