Its not necessarily the volume of software you're running, you could be running the best package off the shelf but you havent set it up properly, or you've allowed windows to keep the vunerable ports open. Windows XP (even SP2) leaves a whole bunch of ports open that arent really monitored by anything. There are a few tools online to check the security of your system, basically they just run the usual scans and checks to see if they can find anything about your computer, and if so they'll tell you

It monitors ALL ports and ALL apps taht attempt to connect to the internet. It then asks me when a new or upgraded app wants to connect to the internet. I have to say "Yes let it" or "No do not". It also prevents incomming connections that I do not want. (So does my router) A healthy ballance of software and configuration is always best.

Yes but ZoneAlarm isnt perfect, it wont monitor everything because then users would complain its lagging their computers, so it makes allowances.

Yes but ZoneAlarm isnt perfect, it wont monitor everything because then users would complain its lagging their computers, so it makes allowances. True, but it seems to be the most secure and reilable available... (Withen Reason) And it gives me full controll without going overboard. As as I said before, I also have a router with a firewall. So only incomming connections I want are allowed.

Anti-Virus : ZoneAlarm with AntiVirus v5.5 Firewall : ZoneAlarm v5.5, Windows XP Firewall, Router Firewall Spyware : AdAware SE Others : Email Control, Program Control - Both with ZoneAlarm. I'd say my PC is well secure. Any virus that does lurk its way onto my system is immediatly erradicated and destroyed. No chance

Well, since no one's developed spyware or viruses for Linux(yet), I'd say my computer is pretty secure Then why do they sell Linux Antivirus Apps? If you do not have a firewall installed, then you are not that secure... (YES there IS a firewall for Linux)
