One would hardly believe that any envy the poor their financial "purity," but is acquisitiveness a vice? Are there acceptable degrees of a longing for wealth? When has a line been crossed? It seems as so. I always wondered why a billionaire would want more money. I mean what’s the point? So you can hide behind it, I guess that could be it. Or perhaps Greed is in the eye of the beholder. Everything in life is a subjective perception. How we look at others may be different from how we look at ourselves. When does one have more than one really needs?

This is a good question one that unfortunatly I never had the chance to think through as of yet so here are my off the cuff thoughts. I believe, at least at the moment, that the desire for wealth can be good or bad depending on its purpose, like most things. If the purpose of aquiring wealth is to help others then I think it is a great and noble thing(provided you help people alot[meaning if you have 50 million dollars give 45 to charity and still have 5 to live on or give even more if possible] and I encourage it but take heed that even though it is good to be able to support people you may get caught up in the chase after the money and forget what you are using it for.

Greed is not the base of every evil.
"Ignorance is the root of evil." —Socrates
Obviously, greedy people are ignorant of the fact that they are greedy.

Money is not the root of all evil .. The Love of money is ..those who dont care who they hurt, to get it. those who get opertunities the make 300 million dollars, they take that... and what do they do with it... the use it to build 100 times more then that, and run smaller businesses out of business. So it is THE LOVE OF MONEY ... not money itself.

Maybe they want to be richer than Bill Gates the evil god. He has actually donated millions to serveral charity's and for enterprise. But I agree for a guy with a few dozen billion dollars, I think it should be billions and not millions hes donating. Something rather than nothing is still good though, wouldn't you agree?

It's never bad to want more money, it gets bad when you'd do anything for that money.

i dunno.. i think some wealthy would envy the poor, becuase of that fact that the poor knows how to indulge in lifes more simpler pleasures.. that and the fact that the poor do not have to look over their shoulder all the time wondering who's out to get them.. or having to suspect their friends and family for using them for their wealth. that and the fact that as long as you have a desire for something.. you have something to strive for. if you are wealthy, then you are able to get all that you want (that can be achieved through monetary means of course) and therefore, have nothing to strive for. you become bored. that is why most wealthy people are unhappy, and become suicidal. i think that those who are rich and strive for more money, do so because of the fact that it is they only thing that they can strive for.. that cannot be easily be obtained..

Um, it is billions- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_and_Melinda_Gates_FoundationI think most Americans have more than we need when looking at a global perspective. A majority of the world(more than 50%) lives on less per day than a lot of us pay for our morning latte. Not that it's bad that we have wealth, as we do a fair job of distributing it, but it does lead to ambivalence and ignorance of what is truly needed for life and happiness.
