I dont think it's dumb at all. If you talk to the person for extended amounts of time your feelings can grow for each other. You share things together that some couples do in real life. I do think it's pointless if you are never going to meet the other person though.

I am going to go against the majority. I think you can develop real feelings and attachments to the people you chat with. Although the internet is flawed, being that there are times you really dont know who you are talking to in most cases its people just like yourself, who are just trying to have a good time and meet new people. I have not been on the internet real long, but long enough and I find myself having feelings for people on the other side of my screen. I have made some really good freinds form all over the world. When I was younger , I didn't have access to an internet so I wrote letters and had many penpals. I made some good freinds in doing this. I see nothing wrong with a relationship growing over the net.

Same here, without the internet i would not have my good friends from across the globe, each of them i care for, i don't think thats silly. I have got to know them, and they're true personality's have gotten across to me, although you can definately act crazier on the web! I am actually very shy in real life, so the web allows me to talk to other people in my true form, which i think is a good thing. Having a proper online relationship, however, where you love, who you're talking to, can not really go anywhere unlesss you meet.
I hope that all made sense ^^"

I dont believe in online relationships. Sure you might think someone is great that you know on the internet. But still. Even if you talk non-stop you dont really know them. Its great to meet people and have contacts but the dating thing before you meet isnt right. There are a bunch of friends i met on the internet that i hope to meet someday. I dont want a relationship with them but i think they would be fun friends.
Unless you met them personally. You dont really KNOW them.
thats just my 2 cents though.

I think freindship is a form of relationship.....in order to be freinds, feelings would have to be present...you like them.... you dont....I think it is possible to have a relationship...its a form of dating to some...and even going on a date in person doesn't guarantee that you will know that person....I mean how many of you have thought "OMG this person is the greatest", only to have them got all ..HELLOCRAZY on ya? .... there are never any guarantees...so I think the internet is a safe way of weeding out the possiblities of disappointments in a safer enviroment and a bit cheaper.

Online Dating Services have bad images, it's just people joking around, when it is actually in good help. Those who can't meet a girl or guy in their area it is a help to them. Some people have trouble meeting girls in their area and some may feel comfortable talking over the internet until you are comfortable to meet that person. I think Online Relationships are fine, if you feel attachments to that person go for it, but if you are just being an idiot and joking around, shame on you, it's a dating service to help shy people and maybe eventually they will get the courage to meet in person the one they met on the internet

I think you should meet and become better friends before even thinking about things like that.

I don’t see anything inherently wrong with them. Like all relationships, online ones should be taken with a grain of salt. There’s pros and cons to online relationships…hm. I guess they’d all really come out to nothing if the people never took time to meet each other, but eh.

I believe that it can be a good thing or a bad thing. I know people who have met the people they married on the internet. If it just stays online then I think it is not such a strong relationship. Affection comes from seeing the good in another and identifying with it which can be easily done over the internet as long as both people are showing their true selves not who they think they want to be.

Something in your throad, Tommy? Do tell, do tell. I don't think meeting people off of the internet isn't necessarily bad (provided it's safe), but I don't think it makes very much sense to be in any sort of relationship more than a friendship until you've met... I also think teens should avoid it.. but hey. I agree. I don't think teens(under18) should be trying it, but it's a valid way to meet for responsible adults.
