I was wondering what the lifespan of a computer was
i mean how long can the CPU last? The CPU is like the main thing that keeps the computer alive

i figured that I'm working on my terminator T-101 CPU for the government ;D Thanks for the info dude Well I have sucesfully run one under heavy load for about 15 years... But I guess I pushed it a bit hard... I am in the process of constructing a replacement... Properly cared for? what would you consider? Hows the best way to care for it? Using a proper heatsynk. One too smal will cause excessive heat. Keeping the internal case temp down. Too mutch ambiant heat will prevent proper heat loss, and cause the CPU stress because of excessive heat.

OK so what are the main things that bring the computer to life Heres what i think: The mother board consist of the CPU and other components that i have no clue what they are called I'm going to ask the google bot and I'll post as soon as i find out I know the heat syncs marvinrules was talking about are the fans right? they keep the system nice and cool Other hand would you recommend shutting down your system when you finished using your computer? Some people use (standby) some simply never shutdown How safe is that? (not ever shutting down?) (would not shutting down cause stress to the CPU?)

I read that they can last about 20 years, but after about 2-3 years is when you start seeing it start to wear down.

I Heard that theory
i known people to have the same computer for 7 years and no problems with the hardware
but i guess it depends on the computer it self and how you care it like Marvin said?
Let me ask you this how would you know if your computers CPU did malfunction or fail?

I have an NT 3 server that has been running since NT 3 came out. (other than all the reboots it's needed for updates and such). It's currently a backup domain controller for my Samba domain. w00t, vintage. I Heard that theory i known people to have the same computer for 7 years and no problems with the hardware but i guess it depends on the computer it self and how you care it like Marvin said? Let me ask you this how would you know if your computers CPU did malfunction or fail? It wouldn't turn on =P

OK so i guess that answers one of the many questions on the table then It doesn't matter if you shutdown your system after use You can leave it on (it shouldn't harm the CPU by leaving the system running and never shutting down) i hope

OK so i guess that answers one of the many questions on the table then It doesn't matter if you shutdown your system after use You can leave it on (it shouldn't harm the CPU by leaving the system running and never shutting down) i hope The real answer: The less it's used, the longer it will last. While the computer is on, the processor (CPU as you're calling it) is being used. But it's worse to use it for 5 minutes, turn it off, come back half an hour later, turn it on, wait 5 minutes and turn it back off, etc. If you're going to use it again within a reasonable ammount of time, leave it on. If not, turn it off.
