OK so i guess that answers one of the many questions on the table then It doesn't matter if you shutdown your system after use You can leave it on (it shouldn't harm the CPU by leaving the system running and never shutting down) i hope The real answer: The less it's used, the longer it will last. While the computer is on, the processor (CPU as you're calling it) is being used. But it's worse to use it for 5 minutes, turn it off, come back half an hour later, turn it on, wait 5 minutes and turn it back off, etc. If you're going to use it again within a reasonable ammount of time, leave it on. If not, turn it off. I see Ben, i totally agree with you the less you use it the better the outcome or lifespan of the CPU So its safe to assume if someone never shuts down and leaves the computer running at all times That Shortens the lifespan of the CPU and thus the 20 year prediction would actually be in reality 8 to 10 years (without ever shutting down)

By the time your CPU dies if you take good care of it, you'll be needing to upgrade anyway. Who uses a computer over 6 years? A new computer depreciates to obsolete in 3 years. You should be more concerned about your power supply than anything else in the computer.

I never turn my PC off. Once in a blue moon I will, and take note that the moon generally isn't blue My CPU is running strong after 7 months of never turning it off (ALMOST never), so nothing wrong with it. It won't cause stress because it'll be at idle if you're not sleeping.
