I use FRAPS to record videos from games, but the out put is huge , a video on 1 minute can be upp to 300 MB, but I use VirtualDub to compress them with DivX A few days ago i upgraded to DivX 6. But now i can't use VirtualDub to compress the videos. (I get a error code -2 when i start compressing) So my question is, has any one else had this problem? Or do i have to install DivX 5 again? XP

1 minute of video taking up 300mb seems high to me. I find that an 1 hour show I record in VCD format takes up about a gig. 1/2 hour is 500mb. If you are posting these vids on the net then you want to think about a smaller capture size. Did you purchase DiVx 6, Or do an upgrade to the ecoder? If not that could be why... You could also try to re-install VirtualDub. Or see if there is an upgrade available. You can also try asking on their support if there are any compatability issues with DiVx6. Personally I like the encoder tool that comes with DiVx 6. So that is what I use.

Frapps always does that with games MarvinRules. I had a minute or 2 that was around 500meg but can be cut down to around 6meg with Adobe.
Dexx Could be a yet to iron out bug with Dix6. Is there any majot benefits for upgrading from 5 to 6?

Ahh.. OK makes sense DiVx 6 actualy encode faster than 5 did for me. Also the DiVx Converter that is included with V6 is way simper than that clunky Dr. Divx app. Also V6 will let you make INteractive clips.. (Like a DVD menu) But I have NO IDEA how that works...

I have DivX Play Bundle (the free one) and I've tried reinstalling VirtualDub, still same error. The encoder tool, encodes the movie to .divx format or can you make .avi too? Dexx Could be a yet to iron out bug with Dix6. Is there any majot benefits for upgrading from 5 to 6?The "whatsnew" list says its 40% better quality and compression then 5. Did a search on Google and found VirtualDub's forum but I have to be a member for 5 days before I can make a thread >.< But I've installed 5 again, and when i get my anwser from their forum I'll install 6 again.

You have to have the encoder version in order to encode DiVx file. The player only has the playback Codec, not the encoder Codec. As for the file format, I just rename the .DIVX to .AVI They are the same files. Just that .DIVX will automatically pay in the DIVX payer. .AVI will work in your fav player, If you have the DiVx codec instlled.

I was making a movie for Counter-Strike for our premier in CAL-IM and the whole video was over 2,300mb. Thats when I compressed it. Then one of our friends got it down to 300ish.
Then I had to make one when we won the CAL-IM championship gar.
