I was attempting to start up one of my games on my PS2 today, which was LOTR: The Third age,and it came up with a disc read error, instead of playing the game, and all my other games work so i took the game to the store to investigate why and they said it may be because i have a first generation PS2 system, and that may cause some games not to work, anyone else ever seen this anywhere?

Older SP2's sometimes have trouble reading CD/DVD's. I have seen replacement parts online that fix this problem. In fact I fixed my Bro's PS2 (Gen1) this way. (Birthday Present)

Yep, Funny thing is I have a second generation PS2 and it doesn't play first generation PS2 game properly it brings all my games up as Disk Read Errors, funy thing is this started as soon as i beat all of them. (Why didn't i pick the X-box for my b-day instead Why!?)

i've had this problem a few times myself, but it doesn't happen that often. usually the problem is my disks are scratched a little or something.

normally when i get this problem it's when one of my friends puts in a codebreaker or a gameshark, and they are not lisenced by sony. Once in a while i'll get it for a game and all i have yto do is eject it once and put it back in, then it works fine
