How many people actually get offended these days by Racial slurs, words like the "n" word (probably most well known), or for Italians the "g" word, and why is it okay for one person of one race to call another person of that same race a racial slur yet they get offended when somebody who's not that race uses whatever word? What do you guys think?

It has often occured to me that people of an African and/or Carribean origin are quite happy to call themselves names that would be unacceptable for anybody else to call them. I hear it nearly every day and in nearly every rap track.

i think that other races contridict themselves by doing that. but i had a mexican friend that was cool with it. he would call me a overjoyed cracker and i would call im a dumb mexican. and neither of us would care because it was all in good fun and we both knew we wernt trying to be racist, but its rare that you find someone who can joke around like that and not get mad and angry.

But my question is why, I listen to rap music, so does my cousin, when he first learned about the "g" word (the racial slur for Italians) he started calling me it (in a joking way) but everyone in the family gets offended by it, so why's it seem that it's only people of African descent who use racial slurs toward eachother?

Because to them it is not a racial slur. Like with your cousin it is probably seen more as an affectionate term which is what makes racism so annoying. Racism is only bad when the people do not have the same ethnic background. Suddenly it becomes acceptable ... if you have two black guys for example or two Italian guys. If I called another white guy a honky mo fo then it would be seen as funny but if somebody of a different origin called him that then they could be prosecuted. I dont get it at all

Following on from an old TV series (30 years ago), we used to call someone the N word, and he used to call us 'Honky' (their word for white man) No one batted an eylid, and he was our supervisor. now the world's gone crazy, but most of it is done by do-gooders trying to make us politically correct. If it doesn't offend the person you say it to, it shouldn't be a probblem IMO,

It is possible to be racist without going into where a person came from.

I hear it nearly every day and in nearly every rap track. That has a simple answer. The word doesn't offend them, the fact that you (a white boy ) call them in this way.

I totally agree with the comment made about them contridicting themselved by using this langauge with each other, but going insane when somebody of another race says it to them!
I suppose you could merge into this topic "does racism exist to a white race" ?

Maybe racial slurs are used to prove a point?
