Maybe racial slurs are used to prove a point? And what point would that be?

I don't see what the big deal is. I don't get offended by it at all, yet some idiots want to make the world perfect by making certain words bad. Political correctness is the most ridiculous idea of this decade.

You may not get offended by racial slurs, but I do. Cussing, that's ridiculous. Those words weren't meant to bring down other people. Words like n!663r were.

I don't really care, I think that the way black people use that word has made it loose all meaning, unless it's really serious. But it's funny that calling a white guy a cracker or something means almost nothing at all.

It is becasue of their derogitive nature, I find it depends on who you are around, If the people you are with don't care, but it is used as some identifier, not meant to be derogative and nature, then I don't see a problem with it. Its like calling a friend of mine homey when we all know what that means, its a joke between us.

Whites weren't enslaved by blacks. It's the other way around. The word was used during that time to bring the black man down, and it still is today. Same thing with cracker. I don't call people either because I find it offensive to be called a name and to call someone else a name.

I dispise the whole idea of racism or racial slurs.
So many people call others racists for saying "black person"... I mean, how else are you going to describe them to make it known whom you are talking about?
Racism sucks. I hate the "N word" being used by anybody, and feel uncomfortable when it is said around me.

racial slurs are ignorance on the callers part . They dont understand difference , usually education cures prejudice , the more you learn about the unusual or different the better you understand and accept it .. i have a question though .. what would calling someone a " redneck " be classified as ?

I was told in history class that Africans picked up the word in use amongst themselves when they were fighting for equality so as to devalue it - basically, the harm words cause change based on how often they're used and who is using them in what context. If they could use it as a word of brotherhood other people using it would hurt them less.
In a similar way, during the holocaust the homosexuals had to wear a triangle (something like that) somewhere on their outfit . The rainbow triangle has been adapted as one of the symbols they choose to wear in their movement.
The reason they can say it to each other aside from that is that it's obviously not really racist when they do, since very few people feel sincere hatred for their own race.
One of my friends frequently is making fun of me for being white and uses pretty much all the slurs he can think of, but I don't really care that much.

I always joke around racially. And people know I don't discriminate. So it's all in fun.
I think people take this kind of stuff too seriously.

You hit the nail on the head. Technically...they are using a racist word but they don't literally mean it and that's why it's ok. They don't mean what they say.

Following on from an old TV series (30 years ago), we used to call someone the N word, and he used to call us 'Honky' (their word for white man) No one batted an eylid, and he was our supervisor. now the world's gone crazy, but most of it is done by do-gooders trying to make us politically correct. If it doesn't offend the person you say it to, it shouldn't be a probblem IMO, Used to get called honkey plenty of times at school and worse... never bothered me lol, I'm just wondering when a simple nursery rythme like ba ba black sheep is going to be politically incorrect.... because no doubt it will

It is words, nothing more. People who get upset simply because someone calls them a word regardless of what that word is are ridiculous and way to self-conscious.
