The search feature will be mainly used where you have to type in a members name - ie. in PMing - I don't know of any other situations where it would be used. It's definitely something that would fit well into PMing.

I can totally agree with you about all those things. Also I am glad the use of Sub Sub Sub Sub (goes on forever) Boards are a good idea, even though they might be a bit annoying if people just put 10000 sub boards in a sub board an all. But then again its their forum and they have the right to do it that way.
About the 100% HTML. I am really really scared about that. I love the way its now, but it should have a header and footer for each skin that's a given. I am scared to like accidentally mess up on customizing the board and have it go from a normal proboard to something that looks like a bomb hit it. I mean with HTML one wrong character make everything mess up and look like a war zone.
But i think I did see however that what I explained just above was put in as an alternate and classic way to do it. Am I right about that?

I've said it before, but I really am not a fan of the new interface. It looks really cheap to me. Not that it matters, just expressing my opinion. I agree with this too. Pat, I have to ask, what is the main purpose of Version 5? Accessibility? It seems that it is, because to me, the whole entire thing seems.... busy to say the least, and huge and not fun to look at, not very modern at all. Don't get me wrong, I love the features, really do, but the general feel just doesn't seem... I really can't phrase it right without making it sound bad.

When is Proboards V5 coming out? I'm fairly new to the site so I had no idea there was going to be a v5.

When is Proboards V5 coming out? I'm fairly new to the site so I had no idea there was going to be a v5. I caught this in time. Haha. ProBoards staff have not mentioned any release dates. Basically it goes like this: When the lead staff feel it's ready, they'll releaes it. It could be a week, a month or a year. We absolutely don't know. Patience is a virtue and we all need to be receptive to their info about Version 5.

I really like the thread preview option, that's a keeper IMO! That is also what I thought when I first saw it! It is IMO a keeper as well!

I must say that I am very impressed! One feature I am most impressed with (which is one I didn't think you guys would ever do, citing privacy issues) is the ability to see who is viewing the same thread page! Is this a feature everyone will see or only Staff with the appropriate permission settings? When you have full control over the HTML, you will be able to choose if you want to see it. For example, you can easily set it to staff only by adding <staff> ... </staff> around the HTML. I have a question. Patrick, what made you guys decide to have bigger graphics all around. I mean, compared to the ones we have had in previous versions these things are giants. The images were already significantly shrunk over the original ones posted on the blog. I have a question. Patrick, what made you guys decide to have bigger graphics all around. I mean, compared to the ones we have had in previous versions these things are giants. I've been keeping tabs on this and the prior thread and this was something that kinda was an "eek!" to me. Why is PB settling on such large graphics and icons? I understand it's fully customizable but still, as other's have stated, it makes the basic look plastic-like, kid-ish and ever so bland. Perhaps throughout development it will take a little more keen visual look than the demo we see now [hence development]. My other question is about the secret feature. WHAT is it absolutely gonna be used for? I read speculation for use of anywhere that a user's screen name or account name could be used [PM's, quotes, etc.] but it seems a bit redundant of the search members feature for staff and the members panel in general. Perhaps a clarified answer on this would relieve posts about these two questions a bit. Btw, I've been w/ PB for a LOOOONG time [even before being a member] so I've seen the progression from V2 till now and V5 will be way better. Basically I'm saying great job to Pat, Martyn and all others who work w/ PB software. Andrew Obviously the look of the pages is a work-in-progress. The user drop down box is not just for staff in the admin area, it is meant for all registered users. So while you do have a search feature, your member's done. Also it is usable by coders to implement new features. Based on our custom profile fields feature that was previously announced, one could use this to do quite a variety of things. As an example of a code that could be developed, someone could create a "friends" list to track what friends are online. They could use the user search box to add names to the friends list and use the custom profile fields feature to save that list. The same is true going the opposite way, someone could code a "foe list" and then have that code hide posts by any of your foes from displaying on the screen. That's just random ideas, but hopefully you get the idea. It's not just for sending PMs, it's for coders to use as well. I can totally agree with you about all those things. Also I am glad the use of Sub Sub Sub Sub (goes on forever) Boards are a good idea, even though they might be a bit annoying if people just put 10000 sub boards in a sub board an all. I mean with HTML one wrong character make everything mess up and look like a war zone. But i think I did see however that what I explained just above was put in as an alternate and classic way to do it. Am I right about that? Headers/footers sections will still exist, and coders will still make codes so that those users who only feel comfortable with that setup will have no problems using v5. I've said it before, but I really am not a fan of the new interface. It looks really cheap to me. Not that it matters, just expressing my opinion. I agree with this too. Don't get me wrong, I love the features, really do, but the general feel just doesn't seem... I really can't phrase it right without making it sound bad. As I said before, layout is not set in stone, it's still in the works. You say it's busy, but actually we've removed more buttons from the page and simplified things significantly. Go re-look at it, there is a lot less going on from a user's perspective. For example, the new actions menu combines nearly all the actions from the page into one list. The only image buttons when you view a board is Search and New Thread at this time. Compare that to the current list of buttons: search, advanced moderation, mark as read, new thread, new poll. As a side note, we plan to have a button inside the New Thread page that will let you add on a poll to the thread as you create it. So I have to respectfully disagree on your assessment that v5 is "busy."

Maybe it's just the icons, I don't know. I guess busy isn't the right word...

I guess busy isn't the right word... I think you may just need to see if after more of the CSS styling is finished. For example, the subjects currently are not bolded which would draw your attention to that area better. Just wait for more screen shots to come out as it develops more

Speaking of buttons and stuff, can I add some design critique? Would it not be better to make the menus for the thread options beveled in like a forum jump as they kind of look fugly and would look much better cut in. I made this mock up as an example using the jump from the secret feature page as an example: Also that's a nifty thing on the new thread with one corner turning down and the opposite turning the other way but it doesn't quite come off, it would if both went up towards the blue/white gradient but wouldn't it look more aesthetically pleasing cupping the views/last post table (Although I'm of an opinion that's work better with both curving down the same way.) Just some ideas, putting it out there. Don't know if I've managed to explain it well but those are some of my thoughts as we are talking about alot of people's forums not just the Support forum.

I have a feature question... Will users ever be able to highlight a word in their post and bold/italicize/underline etc. it by using their keyboard. For instance...highlighting the word instance and pressing Ctrl & B would bold it. The tag buttons work great, I'm just used to the Ctrl & as are other people...probably.

For instance...highlighting the word instance and pressing Ctrl & B would bold it. The tag buttons work great, I'm just used to the Ctrl & as are other people...probably. Browsers already have a predefined function to execute when Ctrl+B is pressed. Chances are, your browser for example, probably brings up your bookmarks, or a PC file explorer, or something similar. Though being able to hit Ctrl+B to bold a term is possible, it also would disable many people's browser functions. You might not have a problem with it, but a lot of people wouldn't be happy that a PB forum was hijacking their key commands. When the Moderator's Lounge is shown, it's quite clear that the text reads "There are no moderators for this forum." Out of curiosity, has this replaced the method of simply hiding "Moderators: none" or is it a setting somewhere that allows this to be changed? Am I not allowed to know this? >.>

My apology for the lack of concept. I did not think of it from a developers point of view and I see how it can be a universal utility.
