You went through the drive through of your favorite fast food resteraunt, ordering the same old goodies. You decide to pay with cash, because it is a lot faster. You get your food and hand over the bill, awaiting your change. You get the change, and drive off so the next person in line can get their stuff. As you are pausing for a red light you decide to put the money back into your purse//wallet. As you count, you realize that the person at the till gave you over $5.00 too much in change. You make sure by looking at the reciept, and remembering what kind of bill you payed with. WHAT DO YOU DO? - - - - - - - - - - Today at work the till in drive through, where I was, was over $170.00 short. I do not even know how this is possible. Was it stolen? Human err? I'm not sure. They'll be reviewing the tapes. I was just wondering what you would do if you knew the person at the window gave you the wrong change.

If I went to a restaurant and they gave me too much money, I'd honestly probably keep it, unless it was a drastic amount of money, like 10 or 20 dollars

in criminal law u have to have mens rea (a guilty mind) meaning that you intended to do the criminal act. since they simply gave you too much money there is no intention to commit a criminal act so its not illegal. i would simply keep the money especially if its jus 5 bucks. not my problem. its practically the same as finding 5 dollars on the street. what if some poor single mother dropped it and needed it to feed her children and you took it? would anyone feel guilty about taking the money off the street?

Keep it. Time is money, and the time it would take to go back or call the supervisor just happens to be worth $5.

Once at a thai restaurant for lunch, me and some friends were paying separately, and I placed a 50 on the counter for the dude to take. He was about to give it back to me because he thought I'd already paid, but I just said "nah, that's yours, mate".
My friends who were paying attention at the time were really surprised.

The people who take the orders don't really contact people who make the food. Either they can't find the button, get confused, or the person making the food is having issues. I feel for you. I can't handle anything other than lettuce, tomato, and ketchup on my burgers. Mustard just makes me crazy.

In my opinion, it's their mistake and if I don't notice it right away I probably won't go back to the place that gave me too much and return it. I've only noticed it once and gave back the money, which actually felt kind of good.

idk about the peeps in this thread, but if you work fast food for long enough you'll eventually see people get absolutely chewed out for being short on their tills. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
If it happened in a drive through, before I got my meal I would ask the person at the second window to take the extra change back to the girl at the first window.

She felt like poo for having to take our tips. Nobody tomorrow is getting tips, nor the next day or next until the money is made back.

In your situation, if it was a place that I went to a lot, like what you said, then I would keep it. They gain a ton of revenue from me anyways.

So her remedy to a revenue loss is to take everyone's tips away to help recover it? That even seems wrong to me. She should've just punished the person who came up short (you) instead of everyone. After all, $170 is nothing to such a franchise.
