.. good threads don't get the attention that they should? It's just kinda sad when threads entitled "would you rather" and inside says "eat a dog turd or get kicked in the nuts" gets more replies and hits than something important or worth while Why is that?

The thread titles are more intriguing.

It's harder to reply to thoughtful threads without being obviously after a +1. You can take a tenth of the time and post a thoughtless, tiny post and increase your post count fast, rather than spending effort on a post that will likely kill the thread or be ignored.

is "would you rather" really more intriguing than something like "guy paints Obama naked with unicorn"? I just find them really lame when there's one on every page for the last 50 pages. Baggy, I think you're right on that one. That and I'm sure that a lot of people will click on a topic that sounds interesting, then sees a wall of text to read and clicks out to post in something lame instead Maybe it's just me, but I don't get it.

If people can get away with plus one replies rather than putting thought into the post, they do those more than putting effort into posting. LoL Bagheera got it before me.

That is really an atypical thing here at PBS GT right now.

Because people tend to go for the threads that take little thought to reply to. It's all about posting once in the thread in response to the first post just for the sake of the post, and not actually conversing with other members.
This can be easily demonstrated by birthday threads and polls.

It depends on what interests people. What counts as 'good' to some may be boring to others, and fun, joking or random threads will probably get more attention than threads that require thoughtful and longer responses.

I'd rather take some time to think about something and have a nice conversation about said topic opposed to posting once in a thread that everyone else is spamming.

First off, I would rather get kicked in the nuts.
Secondly, it's because being proper and civilized are only fun to a certain degree, and joke threads offer members a chance to goof around and answer humorous questions. The reason they get more attention is because they're oftentimes rare, given the relatively strict posting standards and expectations of GT.

-Depends on the title ( has to grab attention) -depends on subject ( consider average age of readers and their interests. A thread on gardening won't go far in a forum full of teens) - depends on topic popularity.( a thread on dragon cave would get more attention then a Hannah Montana thread because, Mylie Cyrus is old news.) -Consider what is controversial ( religion, politics, abortion, ) will usually get a lot of attention because everyone has an opinion.
This forum grows and morphs every few months. A topic that was extremely popular 3 months ago may be ignored today. I think it has very little to do with the thread maker. If a thread bombs and you feel strongly about the topic, wait a few months, reword it and see what happens. You'll be surprised.
Don't let a " dud" thread keep you from making them and never take it seriously. If I did, I'd have stopped posting threads 4 years ago when my first one bombed.

Well, it could also be how things are phrased and brought out. An incoherent ramble may not bring as much attention as something that's clearly focused, has a subject, and directly asks for input. I've seen a lot of serious threads with good potential die out because it's just a wall of text with no direction. Some level of organization is appreciated because it helps people figure out what they're trying to respond to.

Who decides what a good thread is? Not everyone comes here for in depth discussion and debates. A lot of people will find the would you rather stuff more fun, particularly younger members.

To each their own I guess I find would you rather threads pointless and dull. The question I asked in my first post was more entertaining than any would you rather threads around here lately Just my opinion. I mean, it wouldn't even be so bad if it was once in awhile. It'd be like someone asking "what's your favorite Harry Potter character" every few days
