Hello Friends My mod replied as follows - I am using NOD32 virus protection.
when the pop up takes over my screen here and wont let me loose, the screen looks like a McAfee screen (but it dosen't say McAfee) with a red border and the gold sheild, if it's not McAfee it was designed to look exactly like them. I'll see if I can get more info when it happens again. I looked at the URL and it was something like http://www.*&%$!/trojandownloader+-)$.com or something similar. although it was trying to sell protection it was made to look like it was an internal system because it came up MyComputerScan-TrojanDownloader made to look like it was part of my XP operating system.
during a couple of the attacks I reported it to my NOD32 virus protection folks for analysis.
thanks,Over to you if I may please and with thanks in anticipation Best wishes Weenson

Every once in a while on our board a page loads with no ad. Is that an ad that ProBoards has flagged and is blocking for specific reasons?

thanks,Over to you if I may please and with thanks in anticipation Best wishes WeensonI have been dealing with quite a few computers with that problem. Not sure if it is an ad or particular site causing the issues as most of my clients do not surf "questionable" sites as children have access to their computers. Here is what I have had to do to get rid of the issues: Download Malwarebytes, Spybot, and Ccleaner. They are all free and will remove it all. The "shield" and what seems like an antivirus warning is real as it has downloaded itself on to your computer, obviously without your permission (make sure to check your browser settings for privacy and security). The three programs I recommended have done the trick in cleaning the computer as not one single program I have found will clean out everything. Please note, you will want to download those programs on a different computer and burn them to CD. The reason being is the "shield" program will not always allow them to fully download. There are many articles and websites that state McAfee and Norton will let them slip by. Which all the computers I have seen these issues on have either McAfee or Norton.

oh, lovely. so what i thought was a virus from facebook, was actually from proboards, heh. okay, so i got the same fake anti-virus virus on my computer and it ended up making me lose everything on my computer because we couldn't get it to go away and couldn't even do a rollback. so i lost everything just to get it to go away. and once i got everything back, i got yet another virus and we had to do a rollback and now my anti-virus is acting up and won't let me do any updates, and my internet connection isn't working right. i don't know if that is because of the virus, but this started after the second virus happened, so. and i can't see any images on my forum and my cbox isn't showing up either.
however, i haven't been getting any of the ads that you guys were talking about, and so... i really don't know what's going on. but seriously, do scans like, every day, because i don't want anyone else to lose all their stuff too. it sucks, seriously.
and yeah. i'll keep looking for any of those ads, but until then, i really hope this gets fixed because i am so very frustrated with how my computer's acting right now. D:

we are getting hit with what appears to be a similar virus attack. One of our members wrote this: (Several of us have gotten this same attack)
Hey Tommy,
I just came to the site here and I got a virus on my computer when I accessed stclairproboards. I was already logged in from earlier today but as soon as I clicked on the home button above it took me to a totally different website than this. As soon as that happened my anti virus software came up and said I was infected with a trojan virus. Luckily it did clean it off my computer and gave me the following message: Summary Trojan:HTML/FakeXPA is a component of the Win32/FakeXPA family - a group of programs that claims to scan for malware and displays fake warnings of “malicious programs and viruses”. They then inform the user that they need to pay money to register the software in order to remove these non-existent threats. This trojan may also display a dialog that mimics the Windows Security Center.
Have you or anyone else had this problem since the new board was created? Just was wondering...

okay, so i got the same fake anti-virus virus on my computer and it ended up making me lose everything on my computer because we couldn't get it to go away and couldn't even do a rollback. Same thing happened to me Chey. Well, almost. My son-in-law (a computer tech) was able to pull all our important files, pictures, SIMS! etc., off our hard drive and put it on his at least. He tried to load Windows back on it for us, but it wouldn't load and he says our hard drive is toast. So I've been using my daughter's laptop until we can get a new computer. So frustrating...

Can anyone confirm if this is still an issue? Earlier today we blocked an ad network that we think may have been delivering the ad, but we aren't 100% certain.

Sorry to say, I just had one now when I went to log in. It happened so fast I'm not even sure if I actually clicked on log in or just passed my mouse over an ad. This is is what was in my address bar: angelnetworksecurity.com/index.php?affid=92002I tried the CTRL Alt R a few times but nothing came up. I got a screen shot, which is the best I could do. ClickSorry I wan't more help. Edit: I was using IE and I'm located in Nebraska. Also, this wasn't the first incident. I actually had a fake virus program scan start on my own computer several times in one day while here on ProBoards Support. This was during the time most people were reporting audio ads so I really didn't connect it to a ProBoards ad thing although by the end of the day I was getting suspicious. I also had went to my own site, via a link somewhere else and AVG warned my site had a trojan virus. At the time I was too busy cussing (lol) to think to take down any info because I have a brand new computer and I was upset I was already having virus issues. I do appreciate you are trying to pin down what ads are causing these problems. Thanks.

Can anyone confirm if this is still an issue? Earlier today we blocked an ad network that we think may have been delivering the ad, but we aren't 100% certain. Yes I am having users on prac.proboards.com complaining of it this AM as of 9:40 AM EST BTW I have not personally experienced this but am on a Mac.

URLS this 'angel-network' has been seen on: hogwartsrp400.proboards.comrebuiltlives.proboards.comamberbard.proboards.comsal05.proboards.comkaidascurse.proboards.comI'm sorry to say that after dealing with it for a full day (It kept showing up saying that I had 20 trojans and worms that my Norton system never picked up on) I didn't get you a screen shot, though it showed up on Hogwartsrp400 just a few minutes ago and rebuiltlives a few minutes before that.) It takes over your screen and actually scanns or looks like its scanning you computer within the internet page. and the only way to make it go away is to actually close out of the entire page. It is NOT something that you click on. It pops up on its own. I'm using Internet Explorer.

Ok... I've gotten this twice, and several others on my board are pushing me to move the whole thing somewhere else. You people run a fine ship here, but if you can't get this stopped ASAP you're gonna loose a lotta business, and I'll be one of the first in line. I've been here since early on (server #3)... but I can't stick around while your advertizers load trojans onto my system. URL.. victorylane.proboards3.comtime 11:45am Sunday 126-09 No screen shot, no Control-alt-R Geographic location - Virginia NOTE: I'm getting complaints from users in Ontario also... When I get that virus warning, I hit Control-F4 and it'll close the window instantly... afterwards I'll scan and come up with no problems, perhaps because I close the window before it can download itself?? I've scanned with AVG, Adaware, and Spybot... I'll try runnnin Malewarebytes and see if that comes up with anything...

Some of my members are saying they will not be back until this is resolved. I have tried to reassure them all is being done but this is getting frustrating. We are a small board and some of my members don't understand the whole screen shot taking deal and this morning it happened to me twice and while doing the Ctrl Alt R I couldn't get the window to open or should say it would open and then close immediately. Finally got it reported after several attempts. I have members in Missouri and Indiana and I am in Tennessee. For the past 3 mornings it has occurred on my forum between 6 and 8 a.m. And yes in my address bar is the same angelnetwork some others have reported.

Happening on my forum. Open to guest viewing thread of concern is HERE. So far two members are reporting it, using both IE and Firefox. Have asked members to post in that thread with more details.
