Remove Invisibility Option

I posted this on Templates and was told it could only be done as a Plugin...

I would like the option totally removed for everyone...as I have it now on V4,5..

Can anyone help please??

Why would you want to remove that functionality?

Am not a fan of removing things like that, as I feel the member has the right to become invisible if they wish.

That's just my opinion, so am sure another coder will do it for you, am just curious as to why you want it removed.

Couple of reasons really Peter - the first is that we have had troublemakers using it...yes of course I can see as admin who it is...doesn't always make things easier for me. We are not a "ban " instantly forum, we lean very much to the gentle, polite way...

....but and this is more important - it causes unrest with the members...

Suddenly on threads there are discussion as to "who it could be" and "what have they got to hide" ( we are gardening forum) and "what is the point" etc. Then I get PM's - who is it - get rid of them - if they can's show themselves then they don't need to be on here etc..

Since adding the code for removing it there has been peace and quiet Peter and as admin I love that!!

So a code is my only way??

If someone gives you a code. A troublemaker could still bypass it, if they knew how. It wouldn't be hard.

That's true but your average forum visitor doesn't know that...no forum is really safe if you want to see it that way. I still have enough faith in the human race to believe that not everyone is up to no good.

If I had no experience in running a forum I would probably think that it was a good thing but after 6 years there isn't much that I haven't seen. However it brings unrest, even to the point that people find it scary, they feel they are being watched....bit silly perhaps but.....

I prefer my members to feel at ease and this option makes them uneasy and that is why I would like a code to replace the Code that I now have in place.

I apologize. Allow me to reword it. Ifyour users go invisible, then the visitors that visit your site will not see that the forum has been active.

Ah I understand now - yes another reason to get rid of it. I have hated it from the start and although it doesn't make me uneasy personally - probably because I can see as admin who it is, but I understand when the members ask what they have to hide etc.

I always thought hiding things like this was a violation of the TOS.

I consider it a privacy issue, if the user wants to go invisible they have the right to do so and the option shouldn't be taken away from them. Taking the option away is invading their privacy.

No, not really. I mean, what do you have to hide?! That you're online? Why would you hide that? And, if you are invisible, and you make a post, it still appears, it isn't invisible.

That's their privacy, if they want to be hidden why should that right be taken away from them?

I am not starting a debate over this. I was clearly responding to your response asking why someone would want to hide themselves and my simple response was that that is their privacy as to why they would want to hide themselves and that right shouldn't be taken away from them. I do not see how this is a debate.
