It seems the image link is broken as I cannot view it even when I add the URL to my browser directly. I assume this image displays OK when the gallery is displayed linearly? Yes, they are fine then.

FYI: here is our FAQ for how to use postimage.org to post into an individual gallery. The actual, valid URL goes in the comment field, and a modified version goes in the gallery image URL field! I discovered this by trial & error; it makes no sense to me. This FAQ applies only if you are using the Upload via postimage.org button in combination with posting images in your Individual User Gallery. It does not apply anywhere else. (Background: The postimage.org upload plugin and the Gallery plugin don't work well together, necessitating the following procedure.) Here are the steps to follow: - In your gallery, click the Add Image button
- Click the Upload via postimage.org button
- Browse to the image on your computer and click Open
- Choose the resize you like (I use 800x600), then click Upload it!
At this point you have a string inserted in the comment field similar to this one: Leave it there, and also copy & paste the part of that string that is between "img" and "/img" into the image URL field; for this example, you would copy this: http://s14.postimg.cc/tkw0jbvvx/Grung_Flower.jpg Finally, delete the s14. (N.B. it isn't always s14., I saw s27., s16., s2., etc). Now you can click the Add Image button.

You SHOULD be able to simply add the http://s14.postimg.cc/tkw0jbvvx/Grung_Flower.jpg to the Image URL field instead of adding the link to the comment, leaving the s14 in place. What is happening is, when the gallery is viewed linearly, the broken image link (the one without the s14) is ignored, and the unbroken one in the comment field is being displayed as normal, but when you display your gallery non-linearly, the code automatically lifts the first image from the post and displays that as a thumbnail, but in this case the image URL is broken, and so is not displayed properly.

Well, how very odd! You are right; if I extract the url from the string generated by the postimage plugin, put it in the URL field and delete the string from the comment field it seems to work! I never understood WHY that work-around was needed, but it seems no longer necessary. This is very good news!
I was able to repair my gallery postings by doing this, but found that I am prevented from modifying the url field in someone else's gallery, even though I am an admin; why is that?

I made it that way because I could see no reason why anyone other than the gallery owner would want to change the posted picture. Admins can still delete a gallery entry and edit comments, but not the picture. Your best bet would be to disable the plugin, then edit the posts as normal, simply removing the [ur l] tags, then re-enable the plugin, then all should be good.

Forum URL: globalhosting.freeforums.netI am wondering why, for the "Photo Gallery " board on my forum, there is no "reply" button, on the desktop version of the site, so that there is no way to reply to photo gallery threads when using the PC. THere IS a reply button for these threads when you use the mobile phone app -- the black reply button shows up there. But there seems to be no way to reply when using the PC. I have the permissions set on that board so that "everyone" (including all guests to the forum, not just forum members) should be able to reply to any of the photo gallery threads. globalhosting.freeforums.net/board/46/forum-member-photo-galleries

I have just had someone start using the comments... ie me... and is there anyway you can increase the character count? As my gallery is being used for collections of memorabilia and people would like to leave longer comments. Thank you! Kriss

Hi bluegranite, I believe there is no reply button by design. Members can leave comments about the images in a gallery, which is a kind of reply. Todge can explain much better than I, but I think the idea of a gallery is to have a board whose purpose is for sharing images, not for having an open-ended conversation. I feel pretty confident that on a mobile device the reply button is there because proboard plugins do not have the control over the uesr-if on a mobile device that is available on a desktop; many plugins do not work the same on a mobile device.

As my gallery is being used for collections of memorabilia and people would like to leave longer comments. Thank you! Kriss I 2nd that request! The problem is storage. The comments are held in a key, and the key can hold up to 4000 characters per post. Currently a comment can be up to 150 characters long, so, if everyone left comments of that length, you can only have up to 25 comments per image. I can increase allowed length of the comments, but that would have to be offset by the amount of comments you can have per image, so, if I increase it to 300 characters, you'd only have room for 13 full length comments. So it's up to you, do you want longer but potentially less comments, or shorter but more?

'Normal' posts are not actually allowed in the gallery, and hence no 'reply' button, the fact that there is a reply button when using the mobile app is because plugins do not work while using the mobile app..

THank you all, and tpgettys and todge, for explaining this to me. It makes sense. It is nice that the replies can actually be posted via mobile, because I like having an option for a way for members to post comments about the photos.

Well, if it were up to me, I would choose a longer comment length, as we see relatively few comments/post (never more than 5). Also, I presume that the 4000 bytes/post means that 25 is the worst-case maximum; with shorter comments more than 25 are possible.
I know I have run into the 150 character limit more than once. How difficult would it be to make the length configurable by the admin? That would satisfy all, I would think.

I have no idea about writing plugins but is there no way of putting in the comments section from the board? As I notice that as it loads it does load the mini profiles but then it disappears Kriss
