Change the colour of notifications

Indeed you can, and it's rather simple.
Admin > Themes > Colors and Styles > Style Sheet

Now use ctrl+f5 and search for "bubble", you should find the following

@nav_bar_bubble_text_color: #e2417c;
@nav_bar_bubble_font: .8em "Trebuchet MS", Verdana, Arial;
@nav_bar_bubble_background: #FFFFFF;
@nav_bar_bubble_border_radius: 9px;


For me, they are on line 258 - 261
Just edit the two HEX numbers

Anything in the stylesheet will be exported, for future reference.

Now if you would add the gift feature and news feeds to the style boards so we can disable it....that would be even better

By news feed do you mean the bit that shows just below the nav tree?
If so, you can customize the look of it, or disable/enable if you wish.
