Change background colour on News Feeder

I've changed the colour and weight of the font in the News Feed bar by adding code to the Style Sheet. Now I need to change the backgound colour. Is there something else I can add to the following to do this:-

 font-size:medium;

 font-weight:bold;

 color:#ff0000

;

}

The #news selector should affect everything within the news feed.

    font-size: medium;
    font-weight: bold;
     color: #ff0000;
     background-color: #fff;
}
