CheatAreZee, we have a member at takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/ who has been having this same problem for over 2 weeks. She uses Vista with IE9 and simply cannot get past the 'Redirecting' notice. The login process hangs up on 'Redirecting' for hours she says. She has tried logging in using the ProBoards Dashboard and the same thing happens. She tried changing her password and the same thing happens. She tried deleting the cookie for our site and when she tried logging in again, still go the same result. She can't even post as a guest on our Support Board because it hangs up after the Capcha (and yes, she checks the box to agree to the PB TOS). I gave her a link to your above suggestion about InPrivate and we wills see if that helps, but if it doesn't, I just don't know what else to suggest. We are doing all this via email at this point, because she cannot post on our forum at all. Maybe she will be able to post here, but I am doubtful. ETA: She has not tried to login from any other browser because she does not have anything except IE9 on her computer and does not want to download or make any changes to her computer.

If you could get her to temporairly try another web browser such as Firefox, or if they have access to another internet connected device, just to see if they experience the same issue with that it'll help tremendously. They can always un-install firefox after giving it a try; Mozilla is a very creditable company that does not install extra bloatware with the web browser, and uninstalling it removes the browser cleanly if they do not want to keep it around.
With that said, what's the username of the member on your forum?

I had suggested the same thing and she was reluctant to install anything onto her system, but I think she is now planning to download and install Firefox to give it a try. (The InPrivate suggestion did not solve the problem for her, BTW.) She came here and read this thread, but was not able to post. Her browser got hung up exactly the same here as it does on our forum. Her username is imamess. She did say she has an older PC with Win98 on it that she does not use online anymore. She may try to get online with it, but will need to update her virus software first, so I'm not sure how soon that would happen. She may just try the Firefox route. We will keep up updated.

I would NOT recommend running v5 on Win98. Windows 98 will not run any supported browsers, and therefore will make the forum appear broken. The system is far too old I'm afraid. Edit: Upon re-reading this thread it definitely sounds like an issue with some internet security software blocking things.

Thank you, Ricky. I sent her an email letting her know and asking what internet security software she may be using.
I also learned that her Internet Service Provided is DeKalb Telephone Cooperative dba DTC Communications. If that is of any help.

More information:
The member in question WAS able to login to our forum using her Win98 machine today! I am awaiting more information about what browser is on that machine and whether she tried to post or not.
Her response to the question about internet security was that she doesn't really know what that means exactly, but she used PC Tools antivirus, which is updated daily. She is asking what she should look for specifically on her Vista/IE9 machine regarding internet security so she can provide more helpful information to problem solve this issue.
Her last windows update on the Vista Machine was May 15, but that was AFTER she was no longer able to login at all.

Did she update on what happened when she installed Firefox on her computer running Vista? If she would be able to try with that, this would ultimately let us know if it's an issue with a setting on the computer in general, or if it's something being blocked from IE specifically

She also just learned that the OS on her old computer is XP and the browser is IE version is 6.0.29. She posted on our forum successfully using the old computer with XP and IE6. ETA: She just posted on our forums using FireFox on her Vista machine. So that narrows it down to an IE9 setting, right? I am going to ask her to communicate with you directly here now that she is able to log in again, because I think the problem-solving should go faster this way. Thank you for all your help, CheatAreZee

Sounds good, earlene. If it does work with firefox, but not IE, that would indeed signal something a miss with her installation of IE specifically rather than something affecting her computer as a whole. So when she posts here, we can work with her to try and troubleshoot IE further
