...you'd wire a switch the same way with DC AC tends to be more complex, not just with switches, but when you start getting into 2-phase, 3-phase wiring, etc. Yeah, once you have phases it is a bit more.

In residential wiring, your 220V circuit is actually single phase because each hot is 180 degrees out of phase, so they both return to 0V potential at the same time. Same thing with 208 with only 2 hot feeds instead of 3...it's still single phase. I deal with Wye configurations for 3-phase at work (208/120 mostly, some 480/277). I don't see it as more complex, since it'd be difficult to get the same voltage variations with DC without requiring more items in the circuit.
