Forum URL: oznewsandviews.proboards.com/Well, I went to v5 and I've applied the quarantine and post quarantine plug ins and the pest I complained about last week is back posting as a guest. Look, I thought this was the all new improved souped up version and this thing can still just post? I don't know why I bothered. I'm pretty pi**ed off at the moment. If you can't stop people from posting as guests that you don't want posting on your board, then what's the point of plug ins and all the rest?

Hello, @ozw1 You should have restricted membership so guests can't post until they register and you approve their account. You can do that in Forum Settings.
This should help, too. ~ support.proboards.com/post/5293440

So it basically comes down to this. I cannot have my board free and open for anyone to look at and stop serial pests from logging in as guests.
I either put up with this creature or close the board completely from view.
Not really a great solution, is it?
Thanks for your help. It just gets me to think that this creature can so easily do what he wants and spoil it for others.
Which also means that you can't advertise your site because it has to be open for everyone to see.

Not true. You can have restricted registration pending approval AND have your board in plain view of everyone. One doesn't cancel out the other. You are simply restricting posting until you check out their IP address and approve or disapprove their account.

Like Luv said, the best option for you, i think, is to put in the restricted registrations. That way, people can be free to view you forum, and you get to approve anyone who wants to join before they're allowed to post.
It really sounds like what Luv suggested is the perfect solution for you.

If you want to see this in action, here's my test board with restricted registration. You can see most of the boards. Those you can't see are because I have their permissions set to restrict guest viewing. If you wish to register, you may. You'll see exactly how it works and how you can't post until I approve the account.
v5 has more customization than ever to allow for settings of your choosing.

The Quarantine will catch guests too, you just need to make sure that you have it set up properly. Let me grab a link for you. Here That link will take you to detailed instructions for various uses of the Quarantine with screen caps so you can make sure you have it set right. Please, give it another try. Addendum: I just checked and you are right. I was able to post as a guest on my site. I posted in the support thread for this, its the link I gave earlier. Wormopolis is very good at fixing quirks with this plug in so hang on, ok?

there are a few things that can keep this plugin from working. the big one being if they are posting with the mobile app, then no plugins run. I cant do anything about that. you need to turn off guest posting if you want to ensure no guest can post at all.
beyond that, the plugin has a few permissions that have to be checked. under the manage plugins screen, click the edit button. it should say "everyone" can view this plugin. if you switched it to "members and staff" then the plugin doesnt run for guests.
then, a quarantine rule has to be setup to catch guests. if you leave the members field empty, and set "under post count" to 0, then it will catch guest posts because all guests have a -1 post count, while all members have 0 or more posts.

Thanks to all of you. I have gone into the quarantine section and hopefully achieved the pest extermination. If the fumes don't knock me out, I'll get back to you if it works.
Cheers
