Once I have created my theme it will need the .pbt extension. How is that done? Your theme only needs the .pbt extension when it is exported to a computer, so others (or yourself) can import/upload to their forum. To do this, simply do the following: Admin > Themes > Theme ManagerHover over the theme, and select " Settings". Click the " Export" tab, and then " Export to Computer". Now choose " Export Theme". Select where to save to on your computer, and voila. All done.

A .pbt is simply a ProBoards Theme. It will export all your "Theme" stuff (images, coding) automatically. I'm not sure what you're asking exactly or why you need to convert anything to .png ?? Your theme only needs the .pbt extension if you plan on saving said theme to your computer.

Or does the exporting of themes only work for jpg-images under 1mb?

There is no way to import from other devices/software etc.

I cannot create my own theme on my pc and then export or import it to the forum. I think there are a few things you're misunderstanding regarding themes in general. You cannot create a whole theme as a .doc, or as a picture file. A theme is comprised of several different elements -- images, HTML, CSS, any added plugins, and so on. You can create elements of your theme -- such as graphics -- on your computer. However, you must use your admin panel to add those elements to the theme. When you go into the admin panel and "export" your theme, the .pbt file is created. The purpose of the .pbt file is to be able to use the theme you have created using the admin panel options on any proboards forum, rather than the old method of copy/pasting codes & hex colours & image links. You, or people you share your .pbt file with, can "import" the theme, and whatever you have created will appear on their forum. Does that make sense?

You insert template modifications (layout templates), as described in threads for them, or if you know how to use the variables etc you can of course do it with no guidance. The same applies for Style Sheet (css) codes, and also header/footer ones. When you export your forum's theme as a .pbt, like I explained previously, it exports everything under the "theme" section. So, it includes Style Sheet codes, Layout Templates. Images.
