Hi, I'm trying to change an existing forum, without disturbing the members... :-)
It was suggested that I could make a new forum, get it the way I want it... then export the 'skin' (which I think is a 'theme'), then go to the 'old' forum and import the 'skin(theme), I made for the 'new' forum....
This sounds perfectly logical... :-)
Only flaw is my lack of forum making prowess!
So.... the original forum I made by importing a 'theme' and then tweaking it so that it did what I wanted it to do... and looked like I wanted it...
I'd like to do the same again... but... can I 'tweak' an imported theme, and then export it, so I can import it...?
When I thought this one through it seems like I would be messing with someone else's work...
Any ideas?
Thanks Fee x

In case you haven't decided to just try it in the last 19 hours, yes, you can export/import a theme that was originally from the library. Two things to note, first, don't attempt to export it to the library, it'll just be rejected since it's not originally your work. Second, you don't need to start a new forum or deal with all this shuffling of themes, just create a new theme on your existing forum, and set the permissions on it so it's only visible to staff members. Then, when you're finished working on it, you can simply make it visible to everyone.

Thank you so much for this Tim... I had to take a break from looking at the forum to do sheep thungs for a couple of days.. :-) but am now back on it... I've imported what I think is a good theme, set the permission thingy... and now I'll play with it...
Just one other silly question though... If I install a plug in to the new theme, will it effect the other one? Thanks again.... Fee x

That depends entirely on how the plugin author coded it.
