It was working beautifully. Then the man I made it for said the colors were too girly. I tried to fix them and opened up an amazing flood of problems. - smilies no longer work in the shout box. The name appears but not the smilie
- the shout box appears on all pages, although I had removed it from all but the top page.
- The font in the last column on the far right "Last Post" is biger than the font in the other columns, I have searched in vain for where that is controlled. No luck.
Can anyone help? This doesn't make the slightest sense and is quite depressing. I was so proud that I had figured out how to create a theme and now I have a mess on my hands. seekingthekingdom.freeforums.net/Why are men so much trouble when it comes to color? Girly indeed. It was gorgeous.

It was gorgeous. We're not all like that. Some of us understand and appreciate the fact that some colours, as girly as they may be, work fantastically for schemes when done well. For your shoutbox issue, go to your Forum Wrapper and find $[shoutbox] (use ctrl+f, paste that into the box and press enter - it will find it for you). Highlight that text, cut it, save that template, then go to your HOME template, and right click > paste. Savve and voila.

I got rid of the shoutbox on every page of the default theme by adding this coding just below [content] :<!-- $[shoutbox]-->
Are you saying you want me to get rid of that on the default template and insert $[shoutbox] ?
Well, I played with a couple variations and got nowhere. I still have the shout box problems with the new theme and have not solved anything. At least I didn't make things worse by experimenting...!

Well, I played with a couple variations and got nowhere. I still have the shout box problems with the new theme and have not solved anything. At least I didn't make things worse by experimenting...! By what you said for the shoutbox in your original post, I thought what you wanted to do was make it so it didn't appear on ALL pages, but instead, have it display ONLY on the main/home page where the categories etc are listed.. Is this incorrect or .. ? <!-- and --> comments out the code, which stops it from showing at all. So if you do that in the forum wrapper, it's basically the same as completely removing/deleting it. If you then don't add that variable $[shoutbox] somewhere else, such as the HOME template at the top, then it wont display anywhere for you. By default, on a PB theme, the shoutbox displays on ALL pages (Aka. your Forum Wrapper). If you can be a little more specific as to where you want it, if at all, that'd make things a lot easier and I could walk you through

My real forum and original theme work perfectly. Exactly the way I want. My shoutbox appears only on the front page because that is the only place I want it. I achieved that by adding <!-- $[shoutbox]--> I can't remember without looking where I put that. I don't think I put it in the forum wrapper.
My new, trouble-making theme was created in my test forum. I have never altered the CSS or the html. In other words, they are exactly what one gets with a brand new forum. I assumed, wrongly, that when I imported the new theme from the test forum, it would then behave like the default theme. That assumption is wrong. However, the number of unrelated things that are going wrong is quite surprising. At this point, since I do not understand coding, it seems to me that the easiest thing to do would be to delete the new theme and rebuild it on the active forum. The problem I have is that I am not at all clear what the order of doing things is. I don't need more problems...!

When you create a brand new theme, no matter where you do it, your shoutbox will be on ALL pages (aka. in your forum wrapper). You would need to do what you did to your other theme and add <!-- to the start of it and --> to the end. Then, you'd need to place $[shoutbox] in Layout Templates > Home.
