The Titanic forum is a forum to discuss Titanic, her sister ships and other ships. As we all know the Titanic sank on April 14, 1912 in Mid Atlantic on her way to New York. On this forum you can discuss, ask questions and more about the ship. Also covered on this forum is the possible construction of Titanic II. We have been up for a few months but have been inactive deciding whether or not to keep this forum and finally decided to indeed keep it. Please let me know what you think - titanic.freeforums.net/

Hmm...
You have so many boards and categories, when only 3 boards have posts. You are overwhelming your 6 members with so many boards. Maybe delete those boards and categories, then recreate them once there are more members?
Other than that, you're doing great!

I was trying to leave it up to the members to start discussions. I didn't think I was overwhelming them because I thought they could handle it and look for themselves but I see your point
Thanks though for your comment

You are overwhelming your 6 members with so many boards. Maybe delete those boards and categories, then recreate them once there are more members? Other than that, you're doing great! Please read the rules of how to properly rate a forum. Giving it a 3 second look and then one negative thought (it was a justified negative) or just all praise isn't all that helpful and almost comes off as spammy. Wouldn't hurt to read the What Not To Do thread. Still, I appreciate you both for not leaving Chrisshaw with a thread with no comments. I know your intentions were good. chrisshaw, Since your forum is basically the default ProBoards with boards added, I won't give my official rating but I hope I can give you some suggestions to make your site more appealing to guests. What I do like a lot is that you have the first forum on ProBoards, that I'm aware of, that is about the Titanic so the concept is very unique and intriguing to me. (More on this in a bit.) The first thing I'd do is try to find a non-copyrighted image or drawing of the Titanic (or at least a ship much like it) to make into a banner or use as a background. Another option might be just a water/ocean background or an iceberg? Search the internet and be sure to put "free" somewhere in the search and check their policy on usage. If you aren't good at graphics you can request one be made for you here: support.proboards.com/board/21/graphic-design-requestsI do think a new theme would be better than just the default colors. You can find some pretty nice themes just in the ProBoards Theme Creator: Go to: Admin Home> Themes> Colors & Theme Creator> Scheme and you'll see some pretty nice color combos for your site. You could also download a theme right to your site made by members of ProBoards for free use. Often they include a new layout and you can download them with one click. You can find them in your Admin panel and look for the "Theme Library". Another option is to make a request for a theme: support.proboards.com/board/86/request-themeRegrettably, you may not have much luck there because we just don't have many volunteers who have that kind of time to spend creating a whole theme but you never know. It can't hurt. I think it would be nice to maybe have a nautical theme going. For example, you could have an anchor as your on/off icon, maybe one a bit faded in color to show there are no new messages. But if I were you, I'd see what you can come up with for a banner and take the colors from the banner for your forum colors. There is another Titanic site that has almost the exact same boards as you and in the same exact order which leads me to my over-all thoughts about your boards. First of all, you really don't want a site that is almost exactly the same as another site as far as boards. Nothing wrong with using a site as a reference but then you should try to make it "your site". Secondly, although I got on bellsprout's case a bit, the point Bellsprout made was a very good one. Visitors are going to come to your site and think it is a dead site with all those empty boards. What I'd suggest to do for now is make what you have as categories into boards and then all your boards into sub-boards. The reason I say this is because it will consolidate your post count to make it look more active. Once your site gets more active you can maybe then start moving sub-boards to be boards on their own. Moving your boards is super easy to do. You can just drag and drop them. This is probably how I'd have your forum category and boards: Category 1: General Board: Introductions Board: Chat about anything Board: Using this forum Category 2: The Titanic Board: RMS Titanic Passengers and Crew All the boards would become sub-boards Board: RMS Titanic in Detail All the boards would become sub-boards Board: Titanic World All the boards would become sub-boards Category 3: Other Board: Shipwrecks and Ships All the boards become sub-boards (Olympic, Britannic, etc) Board: Gilded Age
Of course, this is just a suggestion. Even that other site that has many members, I bet started out small with few boards and expanded as members demanded it. Lastly, something else you might consider adding to your site to make it more unique is maybe adding a section about planes that crashed, disappeared. ?? To give your site the best possible chance for success, if you haven't already, check out your Admin panel and go to: Admin?Marketing> Promote Your Forum It is packed full of tips on how to get your forum name out there. One thing I you said earlier about how I love the idea of your site and how unique it is. You have no idea how badly I wanted to ask you what made you interested in the Titanic but instead of you telling me here, how about starting a thread on your board for members to tell what got them interested in things about the Titanic. (I promise to come read it on your site.) I also think one of the biggest mistakes you can make is expect members to start posting in all those boards. Honestly, from experience, if you build it, does not mean they will come. You need to be the one who gets things going. Post as much as you can in as many boards as you can and be very careful about copyright. If you found an article that is interesting, summarize it in your own words and then link to the article. Trust me on this, an admin cannot just stand back and hope members are the first to post in a board. You need to break the ice. Granted, sometimes you will feel like you are talking to yourself but ignore that.
