Forum URL: ylstang-racin.forums.net/I have one sub-board on my forum that is password protected. Logging in to it is not a problem. My question is how to log out from this one sub-board?, Once logged in to the sub-board, you are always logged in even when logging out and back into the main forum. I only give the password to trusted members One reason I ask if I'm using someone else's PC or at the library and log in to my forum with my own account I'm also automatically logged into this sub-board also and I don't like this If possible I would like to set up this one sub-board so when leaving it you have to log back in with every visit. Is this possible?

I'm thinking that that password is based on a cookie, if I remember correctly. So, the only way I can think of is to clear the cookie for your forum each time you log off. You could try that and see if it works, or wait for an admin tomorrow.

Thanks moonbeam, Hope it isn't based on a cookie. If possible I would really like for that sub-board to log off automatically when left

Well, based on this thread, it sounds like it is indeed cookie based.

I recall looking into this a while back and discovering it was no longer a cookie-based setting as it was in V4. It now appears to be tied to your account (i.e. login with another account and the board will require a pw) so unless you are giving out your account credentials for someone else to use it is much safer than a cookie which could be stolen or shared by everyone using the same computer. As for expiring after a certain time or when logging out, I haven't identified that to be the case but I assume if you change the password periodically to something else than it should reset to asking again, which is a good practice for any password protected resource anyway.

Thanks Eton Bones, I'm not talking about sharing my account credentials here. I know well better to not do this. I'm asking about a sub-board here that only an admin can set or change the password that I have set already, and it will be given only to Trusted Members. The password is to keep Children off the one sub-board . It is not X-rated, but not PG13 friendly either So that leads me back to my question here, on this one sub-board I want to force a log off when leaving the one sub-board without logging off the forum

Yes I understand Bütch and what I am saying is that password you gave out to the select few would be tied to the account of those select few who used it (saved online with their account information, not on the computer). The only way anyone else would be able to get that password is if they logged on to the account of one of those people who have used the password since that board password is now protected by the password of the account itself (two passwords now protect the board). One of those people would need to either share the password of their account or the password of the protected board itself in order for someone not authorized to see that board to be able to see it. This is different and more secure than the way it was in V4 where the board password was saved to a cookie so anyone using the device would also have access to that cookie. A kid would not have access to that board unless they were given the password by someone who has the password or allowed to login on an account that has already used the password. If they have their own account (which they should since sharing accounts is against TOS) they would NOT have the password which would be tied to specific accounts

Gotcha, now is there a way to force logout on that one sub-board? Not have the password saved anywhere? That's what I really need/want Nobody there is sharing their account, the password is for that one sub-board Only, each user is still logged in to the forum in their own Account, so there is no violation of anybody's TOS So the password has to be entered everytime the sub-board.

It is tied to your account, so if you log out of your account, as i am sure you do on a shared computer, then no one who use that computer after you will be able to access that board unless they know the password.
Go to your forum, access the sub-board, enter the password. Then switch account, either to an alternate account, or if you have no other account, to 'Guest', then try and access the sub-board, and you will be prompted to enter the password.

If possible I would really like for that sub-board to log off automatically when left From my 3rd post in this thread So that leads me back to my question here, on this one sub-board I want to force a log off when leaving the one sub-board without logging off the forum From my 4th post in this thread Gotcha, now is there a way to force logout on that one sub-board?Not have the password saved anywhere? That's what I really need/want I tred to make this question as simple as I could. I've asked the same question 4 times, 4 different ways OK, I understand how Passwords work We have cleared up it is tid to the account now, that much is understand I Just want to know if there is away to log out of just the sub-forum without logging out of the main forum. My problem is I log off the forum, go to another PC where ever it is in the world, log back to my forum, and I'm automatically logged back in to the sub-board

Understood the question, and you got the answer... you can't. What i don't understand is the reasoning. Thus, people, including myself, have posted further information regarding how the password works.
Perhaps i am not understanding the issue. If you enter the password, know the password, why is there a concern that when you login to your account, and you have already entered the password to access the password protected board that you are not prompted for it again [regardless of computer]? No one else on that computer automatically gains access to the board because you have previously entered the password.
It doesn't make sense to me, so i am thinking you may need to add some context to help better understand.

No.I was never told I can't till just now. I was told how it is tied, stored, and how passwords work. I knew all this many years ago, except how PB's stores it It may not be an issue with you, you don't have to understand my reasoning, but others has asked also as it has come up before with no solution. So it is a concern Now what can I do so I can force a log out?

The only way I have been able to clear the password store for a password protected board, was to change the password on the board. but then that forces everyone to have to use the new password to gain entry again. I guess if you really wanted, you could change it to something temporarily, then BACK to the original password.
