Forum URL: bonnaroo.proboards.comImgur.com just announced a brand new format for GIFs. It's sort of a video/mp4 gif that they call "gifv". This is great news for people who make/post GIFs. The problem is that they don't work in Proboards. Using the bbcode for images or for videos doesn't seem to get the images to show up. Is there some way we could get this new format to be able to be embedded in proboards? Currently we're not allowed to embed HTML which seems to be the only way to really get this to work. Info found here (in the post "Introducing GIFV"): imgur.com/blog/Thanks! Any help is appreciated.

I got excited there for a second but it is not a new format, merely an MP4 (after being converted from a gif) renamed to GIFV. If you want to use it in a Proboards post merely change the extension back since it looks like imgur kept the base name the same In Firefox all I did was right clicked it and selected "COPY VIDEO URL" then pasted that in the BBCODE video tag. This computer uses quicktime as the default MP4 player so I generally need to doubleclick the video to play it since I see no controls I tried this but it wasn't letting it work without some kind of plugin. I can't see the videos right now but will look into the plugin thing. Thanks for the reply.

After allowing/adding the plugin it seems to work but I don't know if this will be an option for all members of my board. I'd really prefer it if we could get the new method to work the way it would with GIFs (meaning it plays automatically without need of a video plugin). Hopefully some kind of addition/solution can be made. If there are other suggestions/workarounds I'm all ears but would love it if Proboards updated their code to allow these to embed easier.

Labeled as a feature request.
They're just mp4s, but we can probably get them working with the video BBCode button.

Cool, thanks. I understood that they were mp4s disguised as a new "format" but I wanted to be able to post them in without the user having to click "Activate/allow plugin" and then click "Play" in order to see it. If we can get this to work then members of my board will be very happy. Thanks!

It's also probably worth noting that the embed code they provide uses the <video> tag which isn't supported in IE8, so that could be a factor in whether or not it's implemented since we still support that browser version. www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_video.asp

Just found this old thread on here. Sorry if it's been addressed elsewhere Brian but do you know if any updates have been made to allow this type of format? I haven't kept up with the feature additions and things like that.

Quite a long time ago. You can add them now using the video button.

Quite a long time ago. You can add them now using the video button. Thank you for the update. I see that it still has the play button instead of autoplaying like a gif though. Is there anything that I can do to remove the play button that you are aware of? I doubt there's additional code I can put into the video tag but figured I'd ask

You can implement a hacky solution that causes all to autoplay, but be aware that this would be very much resource intensive for those users of yours that don't have a lot of processing muscle behind their computers. You can add this to your global header if you'd like! Be advised that this isn't perfectly ideal in that if someone uploads a video to the internet from their computer (that has sound) and attempts to embed it in a post, it will also automatically play, sound and all. But we can adjust this to only affect a certain board or thread, though, if you need it to be that fine-grain. <script> $(document).ready(function() { if (proboards.data('route').name == "thread" || proboards.data('route').name == "list_posts") { $("video").each(function(i) { if (i = 0) { i = 1 } $(this)[i].play() $(this).attr('loop', '') }); } }); </script>

Thanks for the options David Clark. Will think about it and see if it's worth getting it to autoplay. Much appreciated.
