I tend to have five pairs of shoes: formal/low heels, comfortable work, rain/snowboots, running shoes, and daily-driver slipons. They all get worn until they're either completely unpresentable, or the person in my family with same shoe size gets a new pair of something I nearly need and gives me their old ones Work shoes are a new and problematic one for me, though. I've gone through three pairs in as many months that just completely tear up my feet in some way or another -- I'm supposed to wear business casual, but I've worn my running shoes to work for a week now without anyone saying anything I also recently bought shoes specifically just because I liked how they look, which is a first for me.

I used to have a lot of shoes. Now I prefer to have less. I do like a basic, comfortable shoe.

Something about looking in my closet and seeing all these pretty shoes neatly arranged just makes me happy! I don't know why but it is much like books and plants. I have to have my "library area" with my bookshelf just perfectly filled with books (every one of them read and sometimes 2-3 times) and a couple plants in every room. But just like my shoes, the books eventually get donated and in with the new, the old plants that aren't doing so well get appointed to the attic and if they don't make it get tossed and new ones to replace them in the other rooms. I think in a way it is a reminder that no matter how tight the money gets sometimes, I can look at those things and feel like I'm still doing o.k. *shrugs*
