Dental Health is just as important as any other kind of health. That being said, my teeth are horrible. Most women in my family lose all of their teeth and opt for dentures by the time their thirty. I've already had one tooth pulled. The two back molars on the bottom are deteriorated on the outside down to the gum with nerves exposed. Granted, they only bother me every so often. Then, a couple weeks a go I broke a tooth, exposing the nerves, that sits just before a top molar. It broke on the inside between it and the other tooth so I can't get into the sore space to relieve any pain. Our dental insurance is starting soon, I had to wait until my husband's job allowed us to renew. I'll be getting work done, which will probably cost us upwards of 2K or more. I know that I need fillings, a few caps/crowns, and at least two teeth pulled. But, as I told my husband. Once my teeth are fixed, I'll be doing everything I possibly can to easy the sensitivity and keep them from getting as bad as they are now, again. The pain is surreal right now. The two molars that have to go are also abscess so I cannot even have them pulled until the infection is gone. Anyone, honestly, have teeth issues?

I think I have mentioned this before on another thread. Across here in the UK myself and my wife have paid National Insurance contributions off our working wage over the years which means we can get free dental care etc so we don't have the cost outlay.
I am now 66 years old and only have 3 front dentures and 5 bottom ones. But I had to get them as I did not lose the original teeth through bad care but lost them in my army days through an accident in our regiment compound at the time (lost 3 teeth). Seen my dentist for a check up 3 weeks ago in which I had 2 fillings then made my next appointment for Jan next year. Barring any toothaches or whatever I am fine.
My wife was an ex dental nurse and she does take care of her teeth at the moment and over the years but she has had around 3 pulled in the last year and a dental plate for the top and bottom made for her which she is quite happy with at her age (67).

Insert something about subsided healthcare here.
Thankfully my teeth are ok, never had to have even a filling and I know that's rare and something to be thankful for - the rest of my family have all had to have fillings, caps, braces etc at some time in their lives. Mine will probably go downhill eventually.

I brush at least twice a day although sometimes I forget to floss. I think I take pretty good care of my teeth but because I eat a lot of sugar, cavities are a common problem(didn't use to be but I think my teeth are getting more sensitive). But thankfully nothing nearly as bad as what the op is describing.

I can't stand it in my coffee although I don't mind it every now and then having a little bit of sugar sprinkled over weetabix, I love weetabix.

Well, after a long day yesterday in excruciating pain, I finally made a dentist appointment. Then, this morning, around 6:30am my time, I woke up and the left side of my face was swollen so bad that I couldn't see out of my eye. A trip to the ER was inevitable. It looks like the tooth in question has a "double abscess" which explains the extreme pain. Granted abscessed teeth hurt in general, a double abscess is worse. I don't wish this pain on anyone. I ended up leaving with a shot of Toradol (pain med but not narcotic because I drove myself), an oral steroid and three prescriptions. Two of those are antibiotics and the third is a very strong pain killer. This next week is going to prove horrible for me in and out of the dentist being poked and prodded. I swear, I'll never let the pain go this long ever ever again. So not worth it

My siblings and I as well as my father have super-resistant teeth. We had gone without seeing a dentist for over 8 years and in that time, none of my siblings or I have had any cavities or needed any kind of fillings. I did just get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled because they were starting to give me a lot of pain and I had gotten a few migraines because of them. Other than that, we've never had any problems with our teeth. I can't say that I take very good care of my teeth, but I do brush at least once a day. My siblings and I just have super-resistance to sugar erosion and such.

After going to the dentist, the cheap option is to pull my whole top row and get dentures, pull to two bad on the bottom and get the other two filled. Down payment for that is $3k after insurance and a $2k credit.... FML

I'm used to insurance covering my dental. I went to a dentist twice a year every year until I was in my 20s. I also had a lot of orthodontic work as well, which included surgery to fix my overbite.
I haven't been to the dentist in 2 or 3 years though. I really need to get on that.

It blows my mind how expensive dental care is. I'm sorry you have such bad teeth. In many ways, it might be the worst kind of pain there is! Teeth are sensitive suckers... My mom and my brother have relatively bad teeth. I dodged that bullet. Had a few cavities when I was younger but I'm mostly good now. I brush once sometimes twice a day. I do not floss. But, every time I go to the dentist, they always applaud me for "taking such fabulous care of my teeth" and I laugh inside because....I really don't do anything special.
Well, I have been told that my mouth is bigger than the average, so my theory is that it's a lot easier to reach every angle with my toothbrush.

My teeth in the upper part of my mouth - the ones waaaay in the back (but not wisdom teeth) - are actually sideways. They jut outwards with the bottoms facing my inner cheeks. Honestly, if they were to grow out I'd probably have warthog tusks... I'd be okay with this.
The only really bad thing as far as I'm concerned is that the pointed bits that hold teeth in are sticking out a bit and food gets stuck in there pretty dang easily. It's insanely uncomfortable. I'll try to get some pictures if anyone's interested.

It's the other one Originally they said I should be okay to have the three that need to come out taken today, but I'm still in a lot of pain and knew the infection wouldn't be gone today. Looks like around Monday.
