I need this to discourage a SPAMbot from registering accounts after repeatedly being banned and deleted. This is not a true 'member', just someone distributing links to advertising sites. Since my Forum's post about the practice have not thwarted additional registrations, I must assume that it is a 'bot', and not a person creating these accounts.

Hi GooRoo, are the ip's similar? if they are and only the last set of numbers change try to a wildcard ban like this: 123.456.789.* the star automatically bans any ip that starts with 123.456.789 you could always enable pending registration so staff must approve membership before they can login. to do this go to: Admin >> Settings >> Forum Settings >> Login And Registration (tab), go down to "Registration Settings" and enable "Restrict Registration"

In addition a user must do the captcha when registering anyway.

At the rate this perp creates new accounts with only SPAM in the signature, it is time to go to the restricted registration ... otherwise I may wind up banning a true member ... even STAFF! I hate to do that, since my Forum just passed its twelfth anniversary, and I never restricted registrations before.

find that admin approval only works well and have probably banned a few hundred alts if the spammer can not get in and start spamming, then they will find an easier target
