Request: Guest only replying to one thread

I'd like to have guests only be able to reply to this thread: mentality.freeforums.net/thread/63/guest-thread

I was told a template could do this?

You could make a new board and make the permissions so the guests can reply, and just put a notice saying 'no posting for members thank you'


Then just make 1 thread on that board.


I do this for a board so my guests can test making a thread and all the buttons etc. they cant post anywhere else and the members stay out it.


just a suggestion i cant help with the template sorry.

I know that is a way but I would like the one thread only as it's tidier that way.

Hi blitzen , there's several templates you need to modify for this:

1) Admin >> Themes >> Layout Templates >> Thread

find this:

{if !$[quick_reply]}{if $[bottom_reply_button]}

and replace with this:

2) in the same template find the line that has this:

{if $[reply_button]}

and replace with:

{if $[reply_button] && $[current_user.is_member] || $[reply_button] && $[thread.id]=="63" && $[current_user.is_guest]}

that'll SHOULD remove the quick reply for guests except on that thread, and the "reply" button at the top of threads.

The first part you said to replace was actually in layout templates > thread (at the bottom).

The second part - what am I supposed to replace?

replace JUST the opening if statement:

{if $[reply_button]}

Ok I did that although I don't know if I've done the right replacement as there were two "{if $[reply_button]}".

Also, quote still shows for guests in other threads on that board (and in them it sort of puts a blue border around the topic, "related topics" and shoutbox and joins them together).

That top $[reply_button] is where it adds it to the controls. Please post back with your results. (There may be another small mod, but it might be okay as is)

Quote button is still showing in other threads and the weird box thing linking things together is still showing in other threads too.
