Craig - I have just had the Porns again - two windows - send a report, hope I did it properly - got two screenshots and the links as well. I don't think that the screenshots need to be posted on here though!! Strange it was in the German language though... I can only get out of the window by closing it - it is still open - do you need anything else before I close it ?? Was this a waste of time, - did I do it wrong...?? I did close my window to the Porn site after a while, nobody answered me..was the info helpful, useless or what - Craig Brian anyone... Whether the site you are redirected to (or window that popsup) is a porn site or other site - you can close the window right away. What Brian was saying earlier is that if it's a rogue ad that gets displayed on the forum that causes the problem - this is the ad we want to remove. Using the ad report tool pulls up a history of the current and previous forum pages you've visited with information regarding the ads that were displayed on those pages. You submit the report by choosing the right time and URL (page) you were on. We get all the ad information and can zero in on the roque ad from there. It is not necessary to keep the popups or redirects open. Hope this helps.

My previous post was addressed to gizmopup . Thanks heavens for that Brian - could you possibly quote next time pretty please..... This is a good example of why we ask members to create their own thread even if their issue is the same or similar to another member's issue.

We inspected the three advertisements contained in your report but were unable to produce the same problem you received. The ads we received on our end were weight loss and Congstar ads.

My bad, didn't see you were given a waiver. Still a good practice for the future though.

A couple of questions 1) so when I get my next pop-up, I copy that page url, look at the time and put those in the report ad box, is that correct? 2) You say if it's the rogue ad that is generating the pop-up, you can remove the ad, but, in Rosefriend's case, upon your examination it was found that it wasn't the ads. So what else could be generating the pop-ups and how do we deal with that?

A reason I have lost forum members since this started was because they are worried that these pop-ups might pose some kind of threat to their devices. Could this be the case?

They should not pose a threat if the member does not react/click on the popup/redirect such that it initiates an action. As long as they just close or exit out of the window they should be fine.

So what else could be generating the pop-ups and how do we deal with that? We don't need the url of WHERE your were directed to or the popup as that is the result and not the cause. (If you kid throws up from bad food, do you examine the puke to stop it from happening again, or do you review what they ate and not feed it to them again.) We need to review what you were served ad-wise so that you don't get served it again. We always err on the side of caution and review every reported ad. However there are other causes that have a higher likelihood of being the cause. Malware is the most common. A computer could get infected with malware and that malware could lie in wait until a specific action by a user, such as logging in or registering on a site. Malware (or malware like symptoms) can come from something simple as browser toolbar add-ons. I've known it happen by being on the same wifi network as someone else whose computer was infected. Always keep your anti-virus updated and have anti-malware on your computer. While some actions may require popups not to be blocked, I would turn those off in your browser. If needed, you can always turn them back on, then off again.

I didn't mean the url of where the pop up is trying to direct me, I mean copy the forum page url that I am on at the time and paste that in the report box and add the time? Is that what I do?
I don't suspect any malware in my device. It is new and I have had 2 antivirus protections in here from day 1 plus CM security.

Reported a porno pop-up through the ads today. Could any admin tell me if I did it right and was it a result? Cheers, Giz.

We received the report but were unable to reproduce the pop up. Keep reporting them (and signing your name so we know its the same user/forum) and we might find a pattern among the types of ads that you report. Thanks for the reports, by the way.
