As of yesterday Photobucket changed its Terms of Service to no longer allow 3rd party posting or image linking for members with free memberships meaning that most of us can no longer link our pictures from our Photobucket accounts to our forum postings.
We are seeing messages posted on the forum saying Third Party Posting has been suspended in place of photos.
What other free sites are people using? Is Flickr a good one?

What other free sites are people using? Is Flickr a good one? With regard to Flicker I can speak from experience. I one did some work as a Photographer for Real Estate and even had a photo published in a science journal. I've been using Flikr for years! Now that I don't take my photography as seriously as I once did, I've also been using Flickr to host my everyday forum pics for years! I've also been a member of Photobucket during that entire time. I often found myself hosting many of my forum pics from Flickr due to Photobucket resolution limits. I like to embed full screen in those forum that allow it. Flicker also provides the option to link your smaller embed pics to a larger resolution: example: (click on the pic when at the link to reach full res)
Free Account!
I was able to share that pic by embedding the image and then using a hyperlink to a static url. This allows me to share full resolution right up to 4K if I so wished. I find the main benefit other than being able to share pics with way more options is also sharing without having people go through your entire library; hence the static url. As for the cheapening of ones flicker account because one is now using it for screen shots and the like; that really is a matter of personal preference. Like I said, I have some pretty awesome photos in my collection with high praise, however to me, it's just a photo hosting site like any other ... except it does a much better job than Photobucket and a few others I have tried. EDIT: A better example from Flickr ... a photo I took not long ago ... along side my forum icons. LOL (again is a matter of personal opinion)
Unlike the other photo this one is NOT linked to a static url. Meaning you should be able to click on my user name L_plate_Dave and arrive at my rather spasmodic Flickr photo stream! Alternative you can just click here and you'll see just how I regard Flickr in terms of what I think it is or is not. Most of my "polished"photos are way back in the beginning or you might come across a few in an album or two. I'm sharing for the point of how I beleive Flickr is awesome for my forum share too. I have thousands of "Pics" at Photobucket. Whilst I currently don't have a Pro Flickr account (like I once did) thus can't embed transparent PNGs ... I just went to this site (ImgBB) and hey presto: I'm done with Photobucket. Never liked them at all. Was just using due to the PNG factor and a non paid account. Other than that ... Flickr offers a hell of a LOT for free! I'll continue using for forum posts and as far as I can tell, I'm not the only one! That said ... I'm off to sign up an account to ImgBB for my transparent pics. Hope some of this info helps. All the best.

There's a hosting service where "Direct linking (hotlinking) is allowed, even encouraged, with no restrictions. Use Village.Photos to manage your eBay sales, to post your images on EZ Boards, vBulletin systems or other forums. Embed them or link them into your marketing email blasts, and more."
I've created an account and the format is user friendly.

Created an account at Village Photos as well ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ as well and uploaded two photos as a test. I have also sent an email to Photobucket asking about their new Terms of Service.

Glad you joined me over there, Nscalerr.
And let us know if you hear back from Photobucket.
I wanted to be sure Village.Photos could handle transparent background images, and they can.

Thank you so much davekyn. I think that we are probably going to give Flickr a try. It looks really nice. Hopefully they will stay free.

Using flickr to host forum graphics is against their TOS.
"Don't use your account to host web graphics or as a replacement for a content distribution network.
If we find you using your account to host generic graphic elements of web page designs, logos, banners, icons, and other non-photographic elements on other web sites, or if you show suspicious upload behavior that impacts the stability of our servers, we will warn you or delete your account."
You can use them to show off your photography but not host "forum images".

Really I had no idea? I've been doing if for years and never had a problem and so too has been the case of the forums I've been hosting on. 90% of my photography are my forum images, however I have indeed been hosting screen shots and other non-photographical elements; especially on other websites. Your most welcome to put in an official complaint to flicker. Easy come easy go. I can see Proboards & I are not getting along. I'm not that invested in my photos and or even this forum and the one I "was" building here. For me it's more about the process. You've been making that quite an unpleasant one. I'm sure there are other more amicable support platforms out there, regardless of right and wrong. I've asked you before that when making admonishments that you use PM. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I know habits are hard to break and this place does seem to like making lots of public admonishments with lots of caps and exclamation marks. That sort of administration drains the life out of a forum and leaves it rather shallow and dry. Thanks for the quick lessons. I've learned all I care to from Probaords at this point. You can be sure I'll be giving you guys a glowing review. Again ... please use PM when you respond with your warnings. Although I am certain yourself, the cavalry and very nature of this place will not be able to resist. TY it's been enlightening. ~Dave _________ Your most welcome brownrexx

I quoted the flickr TOS. It has nothing to do with ProBoards, and I wasn't admonishing you, simply informing people who may not know of flickr's terms of use. If you do not believe me, feel free to read it on flickr's site, here, under "things not to do": www.flickr.com/help/guidelinesIf you choose to continue using flickr in this manner that is literally none of my business, and I am simply not invested in your website or your activities to go out of my way to report it to flickr. Some people aren't aware of these policies so I thought I'd let them know. I have no idea what you're talking about asking me to PM you with "admonishments". I'm not a staff member, so what would I be admonishing you over, exactly? I've talked to you in exactly one other thread stating I didn't understand what you wanted, then left when I still didn't get it. Where is the discord or negativity in that? I also used zero all-caps and exclamation points so I'm quite baffled as to how you think I have previously interacted with you beyond a single thread. You're welcome to get huffy that I'm singling you out or whatever, but i was simply providing information to anyone who was contemplating flickr as an alternative content delivery network. Edit: I see you asked to be PMd in the other thread if you should stop posting there. Again: I am not staff and was simply a member trying to offer help as to where might be appropriate to post. If a staff member didn't Pm you there's no reason to think you did anything wrong. For this case again, I am not admonishing you. Regardless if flickr has caught you, their ToS stands and anyone reading this thread should be aware of their service conditions.

Sigh ... PM is the place for this Kami.
I will make no claims as to how your thinking and feeling as you have done for me. You could not be further from the mark.
I've deleted my forum not out of huffing and puffing. Patrick now has my reasons.
TY for your lesson.
Much appreciated.
Now moving on.

If Kami explains herself in response, for more than 4 paragraphs, she has generally done her homework or has experience on the subject. So take her word on the matter. Well, that's just childish on your part A professional photographer who is not invested in his own work ? Do you get many professional gigs? If the lady does not want to PM/DM you, it's on her right? :/ Welcome to the world of public forums. In regards to proboards, they offer the most robust custom forum platform on the market today, through free or paid hosting. To say you want to leave, does indeed sound like you are throwing your toys out of the pram.
