Hi, Just a general question, I have discontinued my Stock Market, as it has been discontinued on Proboards. Is there, or will there be a replacement or update on what is happening with it?  I checked through the topics, but have not seen anything as of yet.

Yes, it is under the Monetary System, it's one of the topics.

Yes, Yahoo is discontinuing it, so it will no longer work.

I've gone ahead and blocked that message as well. So I suggest anyone that has the Stock Market feature enabled, to disable it in the settings for now. It will likely return for v6, but it won't rely on external data.

No official date has been announced yet, however we are pretty close.

Sorry about that. I had to shut off the cron job my end that pulls data from Yahoo, which then gets parsed to be sent to the plugin. All you would have got is a message saying about the service being disabled, so I nulled it out so it didn't cause issues your end even viewing that page.

As you are aware, on November 2 Yahoo Finance disabled the URL that allowed direct querying for quote data. The feature was originally designed for single use at a small scale, allowing users to issue quote lookup queries and receive structured data in return. However, we and our data providing partners have found that commercial entities are accessing this data at high rates and scale, often in order to resell the data or to provide revenue generating services with the data access as a core value proposition.

We have made multiple unsuccessful attempts to prevent misuse of this service in order to avoid shutting it down completely. However we were unable to stop the misuse. We have longstanding agreements and relationships with our data providers, and this commercial use of the data violated those agreements. By continuing to provide the download service we were putting our data relationships at risk and in turn threatening our ability to provide the most significant part of Yahoo Finance to our more than 75 million users each month.

If the feature comes back for v6, then it will be all simulated this time. I have an idea of how I can allow you to create your own companies to put on the stock market, just haven't had time to prototype anything yet, so it's just an idea right now.
