Hello! I recently had been working on coding a button that will hide the poster's mini-profile, signature and if they edited their post at all it would hide the "by (NAME)" bit. In place of the mini profile there would be something similar to this that only non-staff would see: All I really need help with is figuring out how to replace the mini-profile with what I had coded above as a preview/template and hide the edited by information as well as the poster's signature. I would prefer it if this button would also be able to be used by staff on the site. Oh, and if it is possible, the staff member that posts anonymously on a thread will still have their mini-profile visible to other staff members with just maybe have a blue border with one of the icons above it to signify to other staff that it is a Staff Team post. You can find the site I code for here. I do however have the button coded already, it's just the JavaScript that I can't seem to figure out. Here's the button code: <input id="anonymous" type="submit" name="anonymous" value="Post Anonymously" class="ui-button" method="post"> Thank you for any help. I do apologize if anything sounded confusing, I can always clarify something if needed. ~Sparrow

This is probably best as a plugin request. Also, anyone on mobile will be able to see all of the identity details as normal because plugins and template modifications and header/footer codes don't work on mobile currently. So basically all anonymity will be gone if they just look at the post through mobile. V6 will rectify this but there's no release date for that so there's no telling how far away it is. You can always set the board to Private Board - this will make it so only the thread author and any designated staff members can even see the thread exists, let alone access it. The board will look empty to anyone without a thread in it, and if they do make a thread, that's the only thread they will see in existence. Obviously, this may not be a solution to your problem. I also wanted a way to post anonymously a few years ago and I actually modified the templates for it after hours of work aaand then I learned it wouldn't work because of mobile lol The last thing I can work with, again not ideal or foolrpoof, is the whisper plugin: support.proboards.com/thread/503182/posted-whispers it will work on mobile! Buuuut if you quote the post, then you can see the content, as well as if you have permissions to edit the post. People will be able to see who the poster is but they won't be able to see the content in the post unless specified. I'm sorry I don't have better news :( V6 will solve this at least whenever that happens

Yeah, private boards won't accomplish what the we need sadly.
The staff team and I wanted to leave anonymous posts for thread warnings/reminders and maybe anonymous messages for warnings but oh well, I hope V6 will come out soon then.
Do you still have the code that you used for the templates by any chance? I'm curious about the code that was used in it.
Thank you for your help though, Elf!

I know there is a default warning system though I'm not super familiar with how it all works. I don't think it's anonymous, though.
Have you thought about making 1 account, perhaps named "Anonymous," and giving the password to the relevant staff members so they can log in and post the warnings/reminders without anyone knowing which member posted it? That is something I did on a previous forum.
I don't have the code nor was it a specific code, I basically went into the relevant Layout Templates and put a bunch of conditional statements around the various elements. Like, I put {if $[board.id] == "2"}{else} etc. etc. I could walk you through it but it's very extensive, has to be done on each theme, and doesn't do anything to mobile at all. It also would work on boards, not on a per post or per thread basis, so it probably doesn't serve your specific needs. I'm sorry =/

That is something I did on a previous forum. This is a violation of ProBoards Terms of Service. Please do not suggest ToS violations as solutions.

A lot of users who use my NPC Profiles plugin have posted in its support thread requesting this kind of anonymity. The plugin disguises your post as being created by a user with profile settings defined in your plugin settings. I added an option to display who made an NPC post in the signature of each NPC post because no matter what a plugin's code does in the end everything outside of the layout templates is client-side code that only affects the page after it loads.
My personal suggestion would be to have any users that wish to post anonymously create an alternate account under the same global account that they can switch to at any given time. Once they let you know that the account is meant to be anonymous you can add them to a member group exclusively for anonymous accounts. This allows them to still be recognized as an official anonymous staff poster without having to share an account so long as their account's privacy settings are configured to not reveal anything personally identifying about them.
You could use a layout template modification to make the mini-profile display differently for just members in that group. It won't affect the mobile version in v5, but this won't be an issue in v6 since desktop and mobile will rely on the same HTML.

I'll have to look into the NPC Profiles plugin then as different accounts for staff can sometimes get cluttered in my opinion. Thank you for your help, Brian . This can be marked as resolved for now.
