URL: aeipathy.proboards.com/(please ignore the state of the place atm, I am building a new template). Hey there! This one might not even be a Coding Help requirement - it might actually be a case of me using the feature wrong, but I'm not sure so I'm posting it here.... On my site we have multiple member groups - with different statuses (hidden, private, etc.) And member accounts will generally be added to at least three of them upon acceptance. Three of these member groups have colours assigned to them. All member accounts will only ever be placed in one of these groups. All the others have no colour assigned. However, the colours (which should turn the member's display name to that colour on things like the main page) are not showing. The only way they are then shown is by the individual member going into their Settings and selecting which Member Group they show. So, here is my question - Is there a way of making the Member Groups with colours the default selection in that drop down that people have to go to in their settings? So that their names will automatically be coloured and they don't have to make that extra step to get the colours to show? I have fiddled with the order of the Member Groups, their statuses, the order I add the member to the groups in and anything else I can think of - I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong >.< Like I said, not sure if this is just my use/settings of the Member Groups or if there is a code that is required to help me do this. Many thanks for any and all help!

Hello, JD. If a member does not belong to any group, the first one you add them to will be the one that takes on the color. So, if you are adding a member to a group that has no color as the first add, then no color will be assigned - as that group has no color. As an example: Colored named groups: - Group A - Group B - Group C Non-colored named groups: - Group D - Group E - Group F etc If you add a member to Group D, E or F as the first group you add them to, then no color will show. If you add them to either Group A, B or C first, then they will get the color of the First group. So, if you add them, in this order, to Group C, then Group A and then to Group B - they will take on Group C's color. Please keep in mind that this will only work if they are not already in any group at all. The only way to force a particular color on them is to remove them from ALL groups they belong to, then add them back in - making sure you add them to the group you want them to have the color of first. Also keep in mind that, as you have stated, the member is able to change their Display Group from their settings. It should also be noted that any group defined as Hidden is exempted from this - as Hidden groups (as the name implies) do not get shown. Therefore, treat any Hidden groups as a group with no color - even if one is defined.

For additional clarification: in terms of targeting a group, only the group selected to display is available. The other groups, for all intents and purposes, do not exist (though the underlying permissions of all groups are simultaneously active).
There would be no way to create a plugin or code that allows a user to select their colour based on which groups they belong to as only what is displayed can be targeted.
