Forum URL: notorioustest.proboards.com/So normally I would just use a google web font, but the one I want to use this time isn't on google, so I'm trying to find a way to upload it. I found a file host that allows for hotlinking, but unfortunately, it just isn't working for me still. I keep getting this error: And I don't think I have access to the place where I'd normally put those kinds of headers? Is there a way for me to allow it? For reference, relevant bits of code in case it's necessary: @font-face { font-family: dorBlue; src: url(http://k003.kiwi6.com/hotlink/3plhfqjj64/DorBlue.ttf); }
/* Board Mod */ .board-title { background-color: @title_bar_background_color; font-family: dorBlue; font-size: 24px; }

This isn’t something you have any control over, I’m afraid. There are certain files that modern browsers will block if they come from a domain other than the one trying to use them. The server hosting the file can allow access from other sites by sending a response header (“Access-Control-Allow-Origin”) to the browser, granting permission.
As the error message indicates, the server hosting the font did not send the A-OK header and thus the browser will always block the font file.
Your options are to either: a) contact the host and ask if they’ll update their CORS policy and allow the file to be used as an embedded page resource (are you sure they even allow hotlinking?); b) find a new host; or c) convert the font into a base64-encoded string and plug it into the style sheet directly. The last option is what “in the know” websites do, but it creates a massive wall of incomprehensible text and is often relegated to a separate CSS file to keep everything tidy and manageable—a separate file which would need to be hosted... and which is also blocked by CORS by default.

This one says they do, but it also looks like they just might not support fonts. It's been incredibly difficult to find a place that'll let me upload and link directly to the font. Does anyone have any recommendations for one I can use? I'm under the impression that I can't do it on Proboards directly at least.

Bumping this. Found another in archive.org/ and got this direct link which appears to work, but still has CORS policy issues. I've verified that it allows hotlinking, and it even has pages that encourage it and tell you how to do it. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

The direct link is for a truetype font file which takes you back to your original post issue. You stated you found "another in archive.org/" but didn't state what you found - was it another hosting site?

Yes, I figured linking directly to the hosting site I found as well as the file I uploaded made that clear. My bad.

@tehkittenl, that was my point though, archive.org is not a hosting site. So not sure what site it was you were trying to link to.

I did successfully upload the font and get a direct link to it, but if this one won't work either do you have a recommendation for a place where I can upload the font and use it?

Kitten4u, sorry I don't - well not for free. There are places that will host fonts however there is a fee involved since it does cost the hosting service money to serve up the font every time a user loads a page that uses that font.

I got it to work. For anyone else looking to do this, tumblr lets you do it.
