I do, through Robinhood. Well, I did. I pulled out if the market a few months ago and now my brokerage account is 100% cash. I had satisfying gains when I exited, mostly due to 1 particular stock I owned a lot of...bought most at $30-45 a share, picked up a few more at $60 and $70, and held. Then the company got bought out for $137 a share...so I was satisfied.
Lately I've been watching TNDM, SEDG and AAPL. Will probably reenter soon, probably with AAPL. Pretty good discount right now...

Vanguard LS is a good choice, I've had a decent amount in the 100% fund for a few years now and have seen nice returns so you should make your 7.12% back and much more in time. What made you go 100%? Everything I read seemed to agree that the 60/40 was the best option for reward/risk, so while tempted by the 100 I still thought that I was taking a chance with the 80/20. Either way I've no fear about losing money long term, even if I do have a bad habit of checking the numbers daily! I'm also not too concerned about Brexit. While my holdings are determined by Vanguard anyway, any that are UK-based (about 20-25% of mine I think) and suffer will recover in time, and I'm constantly topping them up anyway to take advantage of lower buying prices.
I'm quite open to the kind of equity exposure the 100% gives you at this point in my life - planning to look at non-equity investments probably in a few years time to balance out the portfolio. I think if I was being more sensible I'd go for the 80/20 over 60/40 because when you're looking at long term investments even if your 60% equities take a hit in a market crash you'd expect them to recover and grow even more over time. Again, that is possbily a reflection of my risk profile at the minute. And yeah, I've been in Vanguard since 2014 and reckon I've checked it on 90% of market days in that time I think you have the right attitude, one of my funds is exclusively UK-based and full of the smaller cap companies who are likely to suffer in a Brexit downturn and I'm confident enough to stick with it but at the same time my other funds are predominantly US/Global ex-UK and my individual stock holdings are all US companies, so hopefully I'm covered fairly well whatever happens! Will be a fun ride alright...

That makes perfect sense to be fair. If I had waited a few weeks before taking the plunge and done some more research then I would likely have gone 100%, and once my current order has gone through I might switch over. It's also good to know it's not just me that feels the need to check! xD I've considered running more than one fund, but I'm not actually sure that it's worth it. The historical returns on the most obvious (FTSE, S&P) don't seem to be as high as even an 80/20 fund. Are the actually worth looking at, or is it just easier (as some that I've read suggest) to through everything into a LifeStrategy fund and run away for a few decades?

Yeah, you can't go wrong with Vanguard LS for decent returns. I've not actually looked much at other index funds - the other three funds I've invested in are all actively managed mutual funds and have consistently beaten multiple indices, so definitely worth it in my view. There's loads of funds to choose from out there, might be worth having a look into some if you're open to it.

Just got my statement. Because of the dip in the stock market, I lost around $19,000 last quarter.

Any fellow Brits been using the Freetrade app? I'm still waiting for an Android version but would certainly be worth looking into for anyone with iOS. Just bringing this thread back to post this. There you are D!

There you are D ! Ah, that's great! I signed up for the beta for it months ago but didn't get an e-mail about this so guess I'm not invited to this stage of testing. Look forward to the finished product being released.

Just a shame that thanks to using a Vanguard ISA if I were to look at it then any potential earnings would be taxable. Still, when it's released I might have a little play

I know this sounds silly (read as horribly tragic), but one sure fire way I do good in the stock market in invest in companies I hate for ethical reasons. Like how they bad they treat their employees and customers. For some reason, the slimiest of companies make more money for their stock holders. Sad state of affairs if you ask me.

Been meaning to sit down and sort it out although I was considering waiting until they have fractional share buying available. Have you made any trades with it yet?

I'll be a lot more interested when fractional trades come in too. Certainly can't afford to throw money at a lot of the companies listed! Bought a couple of shares this afternoon, yeah - basically impulse buys, just for the sake of it and to see how it worked. For now I can't imagine I'll be dropping much into it as I'm not exactly flush, but for cheaper stocks especially it'll be a fun little game at least. ed; if you know your NI number it should only take a couple of minutes to set up. Or at least it did for me.

Do you know when your trades actually execute? I know with some of the budget brokers they execute the trades in a batch towards the end of the trading day rather than instantly. Not that I try to time the market that much, but it'd be sweet if the execution was instant.
