Sometimes it's important to drop the whataboutism and completely call out the negativity or evil. Sometimes it's necessary to call out Joe for what Joe is, without saying, "well what about Bill." We can talk about Bill later on the merits of its own, but let's not muddy the waters. Well said!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still do not think that media is brainwashing us. The medias provides the information that their sources give them.
To me watching and listening to the news is about getting information. In these modern times, journalism includes being a headline with a summary. It also about delivering the news.

And CNN isn't propaganda for the left? I do agree, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I use multiple new sources simply because I do not trust any of them to be unbiased when it comes to politics. I mentioned other media outlets. Sometimes it's important to drop the whataboutism and completely call out the negativity or evil. Sometimes it's necessary to call out Joe for what Joe is, without saying, "well what about Bill." We can talk about Bill later on the merits of its own, but let's not muddy the waters.
People need to be aware that Fox News is propaganda, deliberate and from inception. Any legitimate news they deliver is a Trojan Horse to lull viewers in so that they can be manipulated.
So the whole point counterpoint thing isn't your thing? And FOX is evil? Interesting. But, if you can see that their news is manipulative, then their manipulation isn't working well for them. Thus, the world is actually safe from their evil, right?

The media is definitely brainwashing many poor souls. It's pretty evident when you hear them repeating the same talking points as the media. Additionally they've convinced many in the public that if you support a particular political party you're automatically guilty before any evidence is presented!

CNN said I wasn't being brainwashed, so therefore I am not.

There have been many psychological studies on emotional impulse based on 'headlines'. So to answer the title of the thread; yes, media 'brainwashes' us, at least enough to get a reaction to spread the story. Some people know better and will ignore that gut instinct in order to research the issue, educate themselves, and what have you. Still yet, there are others that see something, panic, and believe that the world should know the news too, without bothering to realize that no, your life is not in danger if you do not forward that chain letter to 20 of your closest friends in the next 6 hours.

We live in an age where factual information is very quickly accessible with a small amount of effort. If a story carries enough weight to personally impact you I think you owe it to yourself to verify whether or not what you were presented was true. The tools are available to confirm or deny a good portion of most things.
The only excuse for being brainwashed in any capacity is if you're living under conditions where a higher (usually authoritarian) power has the means of restricting or outright denying access to that information. Being lazy, gullible, or willfully ignorant won't do anyone any good.
I like to start my media intake with a fresh cup of "Make sure this story isn't coming from a source that spouts hateful rhetoric on a regular basis" which does a pretty fantastic job of filtering out a good amount of the nonsense.

I thought this appropriate for this thread:
From the CBS News archives, legendary anchorman Walter Cronkite signs off for the final time on the "CBS Evening News." Cronkite manned the anchor desk from April, 16, 1962 until March 6, 1981.

It's important that people know that Fox News was purposefully established to be a partisan mouthpiece for republican and neo-conservative interests. 1 - It's rather apparent just by watching, the slant Fox news has. 2 - Is there any real importance in the original purpose of a news outlet? Regardless of where they started, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS news, MSNBC, and NPR are now decidedly left-biased and essentially 'mouthpieces' for the Democratic party. Half a century ago, being in bed with the Democratic party wasn't such a bad thing. But the party message has changed...
