I am working through developing a fantasy rp site with a couple friends. Right now we are doing most of the work offline in Google docs so we can all collaborate on the design at the same time. As we where looking at the combat system, we realized that it might be beneficial to have a system for monster/npc damage calculations. At first we thought that we could use a dice rolling plugin, but this could be cheesed to a more favorable roll through editing.
I then thought of the idea to make either a bot or some kind of plugin that would respond to a command in the members post and make a new post directly after with the results of what the monster did, either like using an ability or how much damage the monster did.
After some more thinking, I think the bot approach would be best, as plugins run client side, and could be avoided by disabling javascript.
Going this route, I was wondering if creating a whole new global account, creating a user for this he bot, and then allowing the bot to login on its own after the account verification was done would be breaking ToS, and if it wasn't what the best way to do this would be. Would probably be making the bot in Python, using the urllib to handle all my web requests.
Heres my current plan for what should be happening. When a user includes one of the bot commands in their post, the bot would do whatever calculations it needs to do based on the command, and then replies to the Post / thread with a quick reply or a new reply, and post the realevent information.
Again, I'm wanting to ask this before I begin any work to make sure I don't break ToS, and to see if anyone has another suggestion for how this could be handled.
