For some reason I thought Syko created this thread He really likes numbers, so I think he would have titled the thread “58008”.

I imagine that a young woman say in her early 20's that had cancer might feel better about herself with an implant. Even if it causes difficulties with certain tests. A lot of young women who have had mastectomies are getting beautiful tattoos over the scarred area instead of opting for implants. That must be something to see. I would feel uncomfortable without an even set, at least out in public, so I would get the tat and still use a prosthesis in public. I wouldn't if I had a double mastectomy.

I think that was the question. Two (silicone) Bs or not two (silicone) Bs, that is the question.

It seems like she had breast reconstruction surgery. Whether that means implants or using tissue she already had doesn't matter. I'm happy she's free of cancer.

That's a shame...I wonder how they would go about recalling implants that are already in someone. "Sorry, I have to butcher you and take your boobs again because we screwed up. "
This is why I have already made the decision that when/if I get breast cancer I'm not going to bother with implants. While I didn't know implants caused cancer, I know they are not necessarily safe. I'd rather be flat then risk infection, leaks or any other danger that implants may pose. My Grandmother had breast cancer years ago and it was before implants had been invented. She had a huge hole in her chest, not just the breast removed -it scared me to see it as a small child, but I got used to it. She had a cloth prosthesis she used. I think that a prosthesis would be the way to go for someone my age, but I imagine that a young woman say in her early 20's that had cancer might feel better about herself with an implant. Even if it causes difficulties with certain tests. I suppose if i end up with an actual hole in my chest some cosmetic skin graphing would be something I would do. It probably wouldn't be great walking around with a gaping hole. I still don't think I would get implants or prosthetic though.

I've never had a mammogram. I've heard that the X-rays....even though low....can be the very cause of breast cancer. Flame me all you want, but it's my body, and I'm not endorsing/promoting that everyone does the same. My 'choice'...not advice to the rest of you I'm an avid researcher. I do my homework and make an informed choice that I feel is best for me....not what the government says is best for me.

After recently undergoing a preventative double mastectomy, Angelina Jolie is now talking openly about choosing have teardrop-shaped breast implants for her reconstruction procedure. link
Five years ago, Ms. Angelina Jolie elected to proceed with prophylactic double mastectomy after undergoing genetic screening and learning that she had a significantly elevated risk of developing breast cancer due to mutation of the BRCA1 gene. link

If you're going to make statements like that, that can scare someone from having an important medical procedure, please provide peer review based articles.
