Yea except turning the monitor upside down to read it is a little too difficult. Scott: VS Admin we need a new monitor stand that I can tilt easily so I can read encrypted messages Kelvin: It says Boobs! Huh, sounds like all he actually needs is just Kelvin.

I've never had a mammogram. I've heard that the X-rays....even though low....can be the very cause of breast cancer. If you're going to make statements like that, that can scare someone from having an important medical procedure, please provide peer review based articles. Nope, not going there. Everyone has the capability to do their own research before they make an important choice, if they are so inclined. This is my personal opinion, it doesn't make it so. Anyone who takes my word for things, without doing their own homework is just another 'follower'. Am I the only one on here that doesn't take everything at face value? I can't be the only person who checks things out before committing myself, surely?

I wonder if BEAST would believe any parsnips have been buttered there?

Am I the only one on here that doesn't take everything at face value? I can't be the only person who checks things out before committing myself, surely? I've lost count of the number of patients that come in who I have to sit down before I can even start the test and correct some erroneous fear caused by what they read on the internet. The internet doesn't need more false claims. You said you heard that mammograms can cause cancer. Did you research that claim? Research shows that, yes, certain types of diagnostic scans can increase the risk of breast cancer, but those are scans like multiple CTs, not mammograms (which have about the same radiation as a chest x-ray). "The risk of dying from breast cancer, which is very real, since one in eight women will develop this disease, dwarfs the theoretical risk that the small radiation dose from a mammogram will induce malignancy. The real risk is about the same as taking a round-trip flight to Paris." - LinkDo you take plane flights? Radiation. Do you eat bananas? Radiation. Do you smoke? Radiation. Do you stand next to brick walls? Radiation.

You said you heard that mammograms can cause cancer. Did you research that claim? I didn't literally hear Marian, but then you knew that. You're being deliberately argumentative. It's a saying. "I heard". My apologies. "I read." All you said about radiation...so? It's a real concern. What's your point?

How ironic that the woman who discovered radiation, died from it's effects. When you say that you correct some erroneous fears that your patients have, you can personally guarantee the safety of radiation can you? WOW.

How ironic that the woman who discovered radiation, died from it's effects. When you say that you correct some erroneous fears that your patients have, you can personally guarantee the safety of radiation can you? WOW. I mentioned those things because it's funny how people are so fearful of medical radiation, yet they encounter it every day of their lives without care. Marie Curie didn't know the risks when she first started experimenting with radiation. Today, we know those risks and can take reasonable precautions following "ALARA" principles of "As Low As Reasonably Achievable" to reduce radiation exposure to ourselves and our patients in order to diagnose diseases that will end their life if not treated or compromise their quality of life. When I sit a patient down, I explain the risks. I don't tell them that radiation is safe, but talk to them about the risks of not doing the test. I also correct any misinformation they may have based on what they've read on the internet or heard from TV or friends.

So you agree that there are risks and you agree we all have a choice based on the information available. Medical radiation, natural radiation, it's all radiation. Natural radiation is everywhere, but we can choose not to over expose our bodies to medical radiation as well.

So you agree that there are risks I can't speak for wildmaven but I will admit that there's a risk that falling water can KILL you. I won't stand under Niagara Falls, but I'm probably not going to run inside the house and hide under the bed when it sprinkles a bit.

Odds are you don't avoid everything that has risks, or you couldn't do anything or go anywhere ever again. You probably weigh the likelihood of the risk when doing something vs how not doing that something will affect you. It's cool that you do your own research, but from reading other threads, especially as they pertain to healthcare, you seem to avoid lots of things because of what you perceive the risks to be. And that's your choice, but the overwhelming body of scientific research shows that many of these risks are statistically insignificant. That's worth pointing out in any discussion where others might be reading.

Not enough time has passed in lots of cases, to get a true picture, so I'm not going to point that out Kay. You just did, so that's done Of course there are risks everywhere and we can't avoid everything. However I have a choice based on research, on what I do choose to expose myself to. We all do. That's all I'm saying. I may be totally wrong, but it's my decision. As I said in my earlier post, I'm not advising anyone to follow suit. I'm sure the members on here know their own minds, they are not so ignorant that they will blindly follow another. It's just my choice guys

It's all a choice, just like it is a choice on my part NOT to have certain medical tests that are recommended for people my age. My MD agrees with me and doesn't argue-it's my body, my choice. My cardiologist agrees that my lifestyle is my choice and works around it.
However, this is not the way I imagined this thread going guys! I expected some of the male childishness, but the other was unexpected!

I expected some of the male childishness I haven't subjected myself to any of that. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say My stress levels are way down now. Some people are like annoying little flies.....they have to make a comment, just to ridicule you...take you out of context...are sycophantic....pedantic. I can't be doing with it. Thank goodness for the 'ignore/block' button......although it doesn't work as I thought it would. I do have the option to read the hidden reply...but I choose not to. If that's the best security Proboards can offer...I'll take it.
