It's been so long since the last time I can remember being sick that I'd forgotten what it's like: headache, fatigue (which I initially mistook for lack of sleep, then wondered why several naps weren't helping), eyes not wanting to look at computer screens, sore throat, and generally just wanting to lie down and do nothing. Maybe the weirdest part is that everything sounds louder than usual. Ordinarily, I'll spend my night going back and forth between like five things at once, so to have a night where I take it easy and do almost nothing feels a bit strange. I'd say it was relaxing, but the headache and other ache-type feelings are ensuring that that is not the case. When's the last time you had a cold/similar sickness? Did you nonetheless find the strength to compose and post an amazing thread on GT despite your symptoms?

Theres a flu going around people at work are getting sick and calling in, even though I was puking I still sucked it up and went in.

It's usually hard for me to get sick. It can be winter and everyone at church is sick and trying to avoid close conversation because they don't want to spread germs. Then I get to annoy people every time I say, "Don't worry about it. I won't get sick." This actually happens. They look at me like I'm holding the fountain of youth in my Poland Spring bottle. I'm never sick for more than 1-2 days. I've always had this theory that I could "drown" colds. So, I drink a gallon of water and only stay home so I can be near a bathroom. I guess "slowing down" for me would be to work on 1 project at a time rather than 5. Remembering the coughing and sneezing from being a kid isn't very pleasant though. There was always that promising feeling when a nostril would clear and you'd think you could breathe. Then things would shift around and the other one would fill. Then you'd think, "Okay, at least it's just my nose." Then your nose would start dripping into your throat. So, you'd try expectorants. Only, they'd dry out your throat and make you cough more. Then after all the coughing, your throat would get sore. It was a crazy cycle, and I don't miss those days. I hope I never experience a cold like that again. As you for you,

I can't remember the last time I was sick with anything like a cold or flu. Maaaybe it was back around 2012, 2013 when I caught a nasty bug that hospitalized me but beyond that I haven't so much as had a sore throat.
Lucky me though my normal chronic illness has me exhausted all the time anyway, but I'm used to it by now which is why I have more internet time. So GT here I come! Only for posting though I'm not interesting enough to make threads.

I had a cold just towards the end of term, always knackered then. Lost my voice. But the main problem is I always get a lingering cough just after being sick.

There's a difference between the Common Cold and Flu.
Many people SAY they have the Flu....when, in reality, they have a nasty head cold. If you truly have flu, you will feel incapacitated. You wouldn't be able to move from your sofa or bed. Real flu makes you feel weak, your limbs hurt, it hurts to pee!
It's like all your nerve endings are exposed. It's like you felt as a child when you had the measles, or chickenpox.
You will be off work for 4 days at least.
A common head cold....although not welcome in most situations, is treatable...and by no means harmless in the grand scheme of things. A paracetamol/decongestant will usually sort things out and enable you to go to work.

If you truly have flu, you will feel incapacitated. You wouldn't be able to move from your sofa or bed. Real flu makes you feel weak, your limbs hurt, it hurts to pee!Yeah, um, no. You’re absolutely right that plenty of people think they have the flu when they have something else, and you might be one of them. UTIs and STIs can cause flu-like symptoms, but painful urination is not a symptom of the “real” flu. Perhaps you’re reacting to whatever medicine you’ve been taking when sick, or you might be prone to getting multiple ailments after an initial infection compromises your immune system. I don’t recall chickenpox being all that bad. A little itchy, but I remember enjoying staying at home playing all day instead of going to school. It seemed more like a standard status that everyone gets sooner or later than an infliction of any kind. I can’t speak to measles, though, as I was vaccinated. (Look Ma, no autism!)

LOL, when I say it hurts to pee, I don't mean as in cystitis (or any other UTI)...I've suffered with that over the years...the painful burning, needing to go all the time. No, what I mean is, it hurts to sit on the loo...like all your nerve endings and muscles are bruised and aching in your legs. I've only had 'real' flu the once and I couldn't get off the sofa for a few days...except to visit the loo, of course. It was flu....the doc said so They didn't have the measles vaccination when I was a child, so, like most of my school friends, I got it when I was around five years old. Even though I was very young, I still remember how ill and weak I felt....and it was a Christmas time. I've also had chicken pox twice. A mild dose when I was around six months old and a very severe dose when I was 13. I was plastered in it, in my ears, down my throat...everywhere! You could hardly put a pin between the spots. The pain and itching I felt was unbearable....plus the nasty taste of pus down my throat. I had 3 weeks off school and was in bed for 2 of them.

I actually can't remember the last time I was sick. It's very rare for me when I do get sick. I know I went to the hospital a couple of times back in 16, but I can't remember why.

Here's how I've progressed over the past few days: Tuesday - Hey, my headache is gone, the throat lump is nearly gone too, and I feel great! Whew, I overcame that pretty quickly. Wednesday - LOLNOPE. Return of everything bad Thursday - Enter Darth Vader voice Friday - The coughing storm. Good thing I bought a billion bags of Luden's last winter Saturday - I can make some throat sounds that I haven't been able to make since Tuesday! And that's all I'll say to avoiding jinxing my progress. Sunday - See, I had been hoping to order pizza this weekend, but the cold made me put my plans on hold. But now I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and order it if I'm feeling well enough tomorrow. I mean, a few slices won't completely undo everything my body has been working to fight for the past week, right? 🍕??
