I was just wondering what the big difference between .jpg files and .png files? Should I bother saving images as .pngs instead of .jpgs?

Yes your better off. Plus the fact the PNG file changes the colour and it looks too dark.

jpegs are generally smaller files, but you can increase their quality to high, obviously making it a bigger file size then if you had just set it as low. pngs also support transparency, but to my knowledge only in Firefox (They don't work in IE, but I haven't tried other browsers).
