Remember when submitting your forum/site to places like google, make a LONG list of keywords. Make sure everything that pertains to your forum is in there, but don't go overboard. Just because you put 'naruto' in the keywords doesn't mean it'll get you more traffic for your website on cars. People who search for Naruto are looking for Naruto, not cars, so choose your keywords wisely.

That is very wise indeed, if you run a harry potter forum, keywords such as magic, hogwarts, all of that would be wise to put in. Everytime you find a new search engine, and placing them in there is also a good idea from time to time. Different users prefer different search engines. There are groups of people who do not like google, ask, yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and AOL because they monopolize the search engine community, so it is smart to put them on smaller search engines also. (wow, I can't believe I just thought of that.)

Like pikablu said, it's not wise to just submit your site to large engines. The big ones aren't always the best ones. They're always helpful, but the little guys shouldn't be counted out. Thousands of people also use smaller engines and directory sites and even come across them on accident. Submit your site EVERYWHERE. The more places, the better, even if you think no one will every see your submission.

Advertising on my first forum through google etc, Pratically doubled the amount of members i was recieving monthly, A must do.

Now, a warning to those who are using these form fill outs. A few of the processes offer you to affiliate with something called Blast Notes. Beware accepting to receive messages from them. They spam your inbox constantly every day with the same message.

Every day they give you one tip. The problem is, they give you the same exact tip 10 times. If you don't mind this, the tips can be rather helpful. If your inbox is already and unholy mess, however, I'd suggest not working with Blast Notes.

I've seen people say they've done MySpace pages for their sites.
This seems to be a more popular option but does it work?
I'm probably the only person on the planet who doesn't have a MySpace page & I don't have a clue how to run one, is it easy to set up?
I'm not asking anyone to advertise here of course, I'm saying Blogs & Personal Pages seems to be more catchy ways of advertsing

Does it cost money to advertise on Google and all the other sites and stuff? My sister says she tried but it wanted her to pay for it. If anybody thinks they know one that's easy to use and FREE (keyword being FREE) then PM me. I have a tiny site and we only get one every DECADE practically, unless I go up to somebody and tell them to join.

My sister also said that when you advertise on Google, it's good to do it once every few weeks because once someone advertises after you, your site goes down on the list and their's gets on top of you. I don't find that fair, but still.

No it doesn't, I've never paid for advertising yet & probably never will.
You can get in plenty of little search engines, directories & such without paying for them & still come up tops!
I just typed in 'Free URL Submission' one day. Avoid the paid ones & the those that wanna know all your personal information (surely for a submission they don't need to know your personal address, telephone number & such?!)
Some you may automatically need to activate or will get newsletters, just unsubscribe from them
