How To Advertise Your ProBoard

I have to agree with the person who said, having 10 active members that are loyal is better than 100! You must be careful not to join a site just for the soul purpose to get ppl to join your's...that is a good way to be ban from a site! Just use your email and tell all your members to email every one in their address book to get the word out, affiliate, join sites but be prepared to be a good member there too by posting so that your membership is not classified as inactive and besides when you do not socialize, you are not letting others get to know you so therefore they won't come check out your site! I can't stress enough, Spamming is wrong and anyone caught doing that on MY site will be ban! You join, you are a member and welcome to advertise (1) time and affiliate, but do not advertise everytime you post!

As the founder of a site with over 1,000 members Im gonna add my 2 pence to the pot.

My site has been going just under 3 years, and after alot of reseach, money and trials the following are my reccomendations.

1) See what sites your competitors are being advertised on, simply go to google and type in: link:competitorsurl.com and try to get your forum listed on the same sites as your competitors. Note - Try to look at competitors which have a high page rank.

2) Signatures in your profile linking to your sites. You will need time to do this, dont expect dozens of visitors from one site, you need to be getting your sig on as many sites that have a similar theme to yours as possible. Mix it up abit by adding TEXT LINKS, over time google will pick them up.

3) Offline advertise can also work. I have made posters, bussiness cards, t-shirts and was also published in a magazine which was read by 15,000 people.

4) Get your members involved. I have had many competitons such as 'refer the most friends this month to win a CD', send your members copies of the posters and bussiness cards, email them banners to put in their signatures.

5) Get your site submitted to web directories, seach engiens are good, but google will generally add you over time (took 6 months for my url to be added to google). Web directories are good because seach engiens pick them up and over time, its a good souce for a page rank (as long as it has a high rank (P5+)

Dont expect things to happen over night, they dont. Its a long process but you get there in the end.

To advertise you must do it carefully. E-mailing is a great way or maybe myspacing would be better. The best tip is advertise slowly. If one person joins and they like it a lot trust me they'll mention to other people. But be sure if you are advertising keep personal infomation private!

I've just started MySpacing, it's going really well otherwise but it's not really done anything for my forum!
I don't know about other people but the time for forums has passed, everyone npw seems to be blogging or MySpacing.
I'm sure there are those that will disagree, has this method worked for anyone else?

I read the thread. I think that it is highly needed because I know there are a lot of Admins who are trying to find ways to get their forum off the ground.

One idea might be that Proboards should have their own "launch group" to help Admins get their forum filled with more activity. It is great that sometimes some of us have friends who will join our boards and participate in the subject matter.

However, making friends on-line is not the easiest thing to do. And, it would be helpful if there was a forum set up for a group of people to try and help those who need it by posting meaningful topics and discussing them to draw more members in. Like the commercial "launch groups", this group would be responsible for discussing certain topics that will provoke the lurkers to come in and join the conversation.

Or, the Admin themselves have to be their own "launch group" in trying to post meaningful topics so that members can come in and discuss them until there are members who can start their own threads and bring the forum into the second stage.

I have tried many of these in the past, yet the only thing that really works for my wwe based forum is to go to wwe.com's chat room. Thats the only thing, I have tried the affilates but didnt work. It is terible. Any tips?

Please make sure you read the rules and guidelines to this board. This board is not to advertise your forum, but to discuss options and experiences. If you wish to advertise your boards, we have an advertising board make specifically for that.

Advertising helps a LOT on your board. Most people wouldn't evne be there if it wasn't for advertising. Yes, having a link in your sig does work in every way. Perhaps, just so some people would know that the sig had a link, you could say, "Guess what's in the sig?" Or some little eyecatching riddle, or arrow. Anything that would catch the others eye can very much be used in every way. Also, having a great banner also provokes members. If it's graphics design, most people would join to get graphics. There are various ways to get people to join your forums.
