I usually don't advertise my forum on other forums or that, but sometimes I meet somebody, and after I talk to them for a little while I ask them "Would you like to see my forum?". They usually say yes and even if they don't join they can at least see it. I think advertising on other forums is silly but that's my opinion and it's probably not really. I agree. I don't do much advertising on other forums. Instead, I usually just put a link to my forum in my sig. I figure that if people look at my posts their bound to see my sig. ;D I thought so once as well. One of my friends teased me about my signature on a forum one day because of something that I don't even remember now. One of the other members didn't get it and asked a question and everyone said it was in my signature. She didn't get it because in her profile she had activated all of the signatures to be inactive. So, if I want links and such, I try to put them under my avatar.

I added a signature link to my forum on all my outgoing e-mail that is automatically displayed. Whether it's just forwarding jokes or what ever, it's there for anyone to click on. It has helped quite a bit and even gotten a few hits and a couple new members. I also placed a link(with permission) along with a "write up" on the AOL message Board and have gotten a few hits from there. I have tried to come up with other ideas but this is as far as I got without feeling like I was imposing. I just received an e-mail from a 'music site' that I had written to, regarding my forum and they replied stating that they will advertise it and will let me know when they do. I was just pleased that they replied much less say that they would consider promoting my site. ( It would be nice if they did, just have to wait and see. ) Anyway, I hope some of these ideas inspire some of you here. Keep in mind too that it generally takes a while for a new site to get up and running in full swing, so, Be patient and DONT give up. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway

Keep in mind this support forum is just that, a forum for support - not a forum to to advertise, not one to ask to advertise on other people's boards, no a forum to trade affiliates, etc. This forum is for support on ProBoards message boards, and to learn how to run a forum and all aspects concerning that.

Just to add to what xkamelx said, you'd find that very few people here would allow you to advertise on their forum. There are several forums I know of that are for advertising purposes, but aside from those, you wouldn't find many forums that would allow you to advertise, other than in your signature. To most people it is seen as a measure of desperation.

Check the sticky thread titled Table of Contents. You'll see a thread lised for affiliates, which answers your questions. For future reference, keep in mind this thread, and all threads in 'Discussion: Your ProBoard' are reserved for discussions and debates, not for asking support rlated questions.

You know what I think? Advertising sites are crap. Why? Well, it's basically this: someone comes, posts a link, nothing else, then forgets the site. And, of course, they don't check any other links. I myself used to have an active board, but a major problem was that I had an advertising board, and one member posted 43 threads with a link and nothing else. It completely made me mad! And of the 100-200 members, about 30 just came in because they saw the advertising board, posted once, and then left. The only people who check links on advertising boards are the admins. Many members just don't have time to check out other links, myself included. All this did was make a board with 200 threads and about 250 posts, meaning only 1 in 4 threads had a reply (there were more threads than replies to threads). So what I did was transfer an Advertising board to a Get Opinions About Your Board. This I feel is much better, because guests will be attracted, but for once, the threads can actually generate a lot of replies. Of course, I made the GOAYB members only. So basically, advertising boards get members with 1 posts for your site and on top posters, you see stuff like, "Top poster: Admin with 500." Second top: Member with 1. Then another person with 1. It's stupid. Well that was my comment, what do you think?

I found that Digg can be a very quick way to get mass traffic to your forum, but it takes a bit of work. You need to have some good article writing skills and get some articles written, and then submit them to digg, you will notice traffic going up almost instantly and is very good to get your forum seen.

About digg, how do you actually get your forum up? Are you supposed to write an article about your proboards and also provide the link to it? It looks like it's a site where you just post stories.

I think I'll add it to the first post. The article should be an informative article, like the history of a subject, a new product released, etc. as opposed to a description of a forum, correct?
