Note: As with any service on the Internet, please review the privacy policy and terms of service for each and any service you use. Myke, I see what you tried to do and it is a good idea. You always do a great job of putting these together but please remove some of those sites. www.promotionworld.com/directory/ffa.html; Those types of links you get can get your site/forum banned. I have had to fix sites that used this service. Any site that offers thousands of free links or even paid links is bad. It will catch up with you. I have seen tons of sites get banned because of these types of schemes. Please remove: www.promotionworld.com/directory/ffa.htmlwebsubmit.net/To all fo you who want a good position in Google. I am going to give away a secret I use as a SEO. Get links to your forum from other forums related to your topic preferably. These must be text links and if the anchor text has the text you want to come up in Google for you will eventually get a good ranking depending on the competition. This is not the only factor but is a big one. Thank you!

These are all great tips to really get a site going and i really am glad you guys posted the links to submit your forum to the search engines. But for people who are submitting them sometimes it takes a couple tries so like every month or two if you notice its not in give it another try. But one thing for me. I just started a new site...kinda of a variety site with several things to do but the thing is again all these tips are great.......if you already have a couple of members like up to 10 or something but people who have no members and are in search of some how should they go about getting there first member to join and stick with it?

I used the Ad Me one and it said I have to place their link on my site/board. I have it at the very bottom, just about the google search. It is plain text, but I am worried now that I shouldn't have it.
Also, I am interested in how I would go about finding affiliates, being sch a new board. I don't want to just PM people...but I don't want to have a HUGE bunch of text screaming for affiliates in my sig, either...
What do most people on here look for when looking for affiliates? They don't actually click on those huge texts on some o these sigs, do they? And what about being such a new forum, will I be able to get decent affiliates?

And what about being such a new forum, will I be able to get decent affiliates? Personally I look for boards with a solid member base of at least 20 members, and a decent level of activity. The board must also look nice, and the content must comply with the TOS for me to consider it. Hope that helps

Now I just have to get a bigger memberbase for a better chance at some real affiliations.

i have over 700 members, and did have member affiliation, however my page rank droped because of it, as many of the sites had a pr of 0, mine was 3. Since removing the affiliate table from my site ive recieved more hits than I did with it!

i need some help get it on the search LINK REMOVED www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurlClick the link above, and fill out the form. It can take time for google to index your forum, so only submit it once and then be patient. The best way to ensure your board comes up when searched for is to leave links to it on other sites with high levels of traffic. Also, linking to your forum in this board is not allowed, you can only place links to your forum in your signature... please modify your post and remove the link... also a quick read through the rules might be a good idea. Good luck with your forum

Google puts sites in a queue line. This can take 4 or more months for your site to get listed. And without any links your site will get de-indexed. Getting HTML links to your site will get you indexed faster and better rankings. Resubmitting doesn't help anything just tells google you are desperate and that isn't a good idea.

As a rule on google I can already search for my board off proboards. I also make a habit if a message board has a website that gets submitted too it. It just gives another page and means that its another 'html link' to go through. Just a question, does google pick up affiliation banners or not?

Google can't detect image links or links embedded in javascript But this post was on advertising proboards so I think these google questions are abit off topic.

My suggestion would to join other boards, that have the same theme as your board but yet is built tottally differently (but become a regular user, so its not like you just joined to advertise, its one thing to have users its another to have active users. But get to know everyone and put your site in your profile), so a person is interested in seeing it but it isnt like joining 2 of the same boards.I am personally haveing a problem with this right now I own a couple boards with different themes but are set up the same, so im in the process of altering each site a bit.(iv had several users join my board just becasue of seeing my profile on another site.)

Great post and great advice! I have a question regarding the indexing of google. You said that it is a wise idea to include links to your site on various different forums (preferably active ones, right?) in your genre. But what if i don't really want people from that site to click on my link? What if i just want it to improve my Google ranking? Would google de-index me if i used a 1x1 image link? Is that a bad thing? I've read a lot of conflicting arguments on the internet about that issue and now i'm thoroughly confused. Thanks in advance -diatonality.

I guess I have bad luck, because I tryed to advertise my site by the ways I saw on this topic, but in the end it still has the same result. I am still down with all three of my sites and I have under 10 members for all of them. What am I doing wrong?

You may not be doing anything wrong advertising wise, it may be your forum that could use some improvments. You may want to post it in the Get Opinions About Your Board board to allow other members to rate the forum, and make suggestions for improvment.
